I love it, it’s a full suite of software to make use of, and shows off the power of these vampire cards.
I can’t count the amount of times I’ve had to rebuild a workbench install from scratch because I’ve swapped out a card or accelerator and something now doesn’t work. Or needs a specific boing ball patch with a specific version of cybergraphics and or something else blah blah blah.
It’s this mucking about that killed me with ppc (classic cyberstorm/blizzard), I spent so much time nursing the software, and ticking off what versions of what library worked with what else, that I didn’t actually manage to do anything fun with it.

Now we’re running m68k - x86 emulation and playing magic carpet; a game I pretty much had as the sole reason for owning a PS1. In emulation! It’s not playable but boggles my mind... maybe the vamp4....

Anyway, my hat is off to whoever spent the time to put this apolloOS together and all the software in it. I’m well aware of the time needed to do something like this; and it’s time incertanly don’t have myself!!! So thanks again

Apollo OS assists in defining the Vampire/Amiga as the NEW "lowest common denominator" of the AOS (classic) standard!

Vampire 2 is AMIGA's baseline of computing now!

It's a done deal!!!

There are people with multiple Vampires already. That says it all.

for last 43P partition fixed version

Maybe this time author of Apollo OS will create repository for app /or what is it called/ to update OS. Without pulling hdd out of amiga.

I would like this, if it was some kind of sync app with individual files to be synced. But I would also like if you could move stuff around and it still updates or whatever (maybe it looks for hidden files on the drive).

The update app is built in apollo OS - it is called IPM or something like that. It is something like juens app https://www.ppa.pl/forum/amiga/36295/app-program-do-autopobierania-i-instalacji-softwaru-z-internetu#m560311 use translator or learn polish:). It is really nice done. I strongly advise to play a little bit with app, juens repository is quite large:).

It seems best AmigaOS software gets to go to ApolloOS :-)

What people hope and expect might be internal OS upgrade via Internet vs dumping the image (again)

I have a few questions about Apollo OS out of curiosity. I hope they're not too redundant! I know they've probably been asked before, but I couldn't really find a solid answer so...

Who is actually making Apollo OS? Apollo Team themselves?

Is it based on AmigaOS 3.9?

If so, how did the developers manage to obtain the code for it?

I've read different threads on Amiga forums where some people claim that Apollo OS is illegal because it infringes on certain copyrights. How true is that?

Its a compilation of OS 3.9 + a lot of patches and updates, like you mirrored your AmigaOS image, but this one is best suited for newbie Vampire users.

Its intended for people who already have OS. Its not on sales. Its in IP blackhole, just because AmigaOS, certainly OS 3.9 is, not because of anyones desire to be so.

No it's an enthusiast in the community.

Yes

To me this is kind of a grey area as well, I physically own a legit copy of 3.9, so I feel I can use ApolloOS without issues.

Recompile all distro stuff with recent gcc will took ages even on blast fast Vampire card...

I thought crosscompile on x86 is mostly used, it's faster and produces better machine code. Also I guess most stuff is in binary form already since the source code is hard to compile or has long since evaporated

I am NOT for 64gb! image. We should have some smaller installation without so much data stuff. Its nice to have it all around, but what if SD card space is needed for TOS/Mint, AmiKit, OS 3.9, AROS? 4-8gb stripped latest Apollo would also do much magic.

I throught it is just adding and removing stuff from AmigaOS like distro, NOT recompiling it fully to be 080-AMMX (That could be a long term goal but neither source of OS or most of apps is avail, nor we have GCC able to do that at the present time).

R44 was shown couple times so far, with new icon set and supporting FPU apps, working with core 2.7 so that should be around the corner as soon as 2.7 is out.

Example is Miss Mad Lemon having mad mad X13 core with 2.7 beta and R44 ApolloOS

Some of us only have a 32GB CF and don't want to buy another, keep it small

Interesting thing, Manuel tests Vista Pro with core 2.7 beta. But his status displays "coffin R45". I suppose R45 could be out in 2.7 days, who knows maybe even one more version bumps? :-) EXTERNAL LINK
