AmiKit for Vampirepage  1 2 3 4

Amikit (CF) ran over the IDE port of the A1200.

Today I used the IDE port of the Vampire V2, unfortunately the CF I ordered from Amikit doesn't work with it. Apparently the V2 is very picky, cards from Transcent and Sandisk run without problems.

Or does anyone have an other idea ?

I have never had any problems with the IDE port.
Its fast and absolutely reliable and not picky at all in my experience.

What brand/model is the CF?

I can't tell you, the CF came directly from Amikit and is covered with it.

But my other 32GB from Transcent works. I also have the current core. I've only had the V2 1200 for about a week. That's why I'm still trying. I also informed Jan from Amikit.

Nevertheless, I am very enthusiastic about the V2 and Amikit. If the CF is still running then I am absolutely happy.

I can only share you my experience.

I use hundreds of CF from every real brand.
From Transcend, Sandisk, Kingston.
From 1GB,2GB,4GB,8GB,16GB,32GB,64GB, to 128GB.
I never had any problems.

Which CF card reader do you use? If I may ask.

I now have one connected to a CD-ROM drive and Vampire V2.

Before that I had a BUFFERED IDE INTERFACE between them, the connection didn't work.

I use typically V.B1 and V.H2.
V.B1 is 90 degree edge adapter.
V.H2 has a cable, I always use short 5cm cables.

And as recommend by the ATAPI specification, I always connect the CF alone - no other device.

Tried several adapters yesterday. Only the Amikit CF did not run over the IDE port. Even with a CD reader without a cable directly on the V2.

Thanks for the information first.

I will definitely write again after playing Amikit on a Transcend CF.

Actually I would not use the IDE of the Vampire to attach a CD reader to it. CD-Readers are slow. You can keep this perfectly fine on the mainboard. I would use the V1200 IDE for faster devices like CF.

I haven't even looked at it like that ...

So you mean the CF via the Vampire and the CD drive via the IDE port of the A1200 board. I haven't tried it yet, I don't even know whether the CD-ROM drive will then communicate with the CF (Workbench).

There is a "ruleset" which defines how all IDE devices worldwide should behave and how all computer using IDE should behave.
These constructions "rules" are called "specification" or short just SPEC.
According to this "Spec", its advised to connect CF alone on a IDE cable. Connected an CF card together with another device .. can work but does not have to.

According to the "rules" the cable length should always be short. 5-10 cm max and the CF should be connected alone.

In your Amiga you have 2 ports.
The mainboard port and the Vampire port.
The Vampire port is a high speed port, the CF is a high speed device.
I would connect the CF to the Vampire port directly.
The CDrom is a low speed port, and your A1200 is also a low speed port. I would connect CD-Rom to A1200 mobo.

Hello Gunner,

The supplied CF from Amikit does not work, but after I have played the software on a San Disk CF, it works.

I have now successfully connected the V2 with a CF via the IDE port of the vampires.

Finally found the solution. The scsi.device became an atapi.device. So just had to push the driver into devs. And find the drive with IDEFIX. Now it's finally working.
