Coffin Problems

I received my V1200 today and have been trying to get it to work. So far all my current installs (both OS3.9) have not booted due to compatibility issues. So I decided to try Coffin. Downloaded it, wrote it to a card (SD card via a CF adaptor, it's the only 32GB card I have) using Win32 and tried to boot.

The Amiga doesn't even see the partitions on the drive when you go into the early startup menu. Tried booting into a 3.1 (and 3.1.4 for a giggle) install disk and while it see's the drive, says it is "unknown".

What have I got wrong with writing Coffin to the disk?

Wonder if you got a bad download of the coffin image? if you got it from torrent sometimes those go corrupt.

Hi,
I got a similar problem. Then I tried the CF card on my winuae installation. To make it short, I can start coffin r56 on winuae (with very low graphics) and it runs.
If i just mount the CF32GB with coffin in a A1200 installation as a additional HD , it is reedable. I can see all the folders and open them etc.

If I boot the A1200 with the new Vamp1200 with my existing 4GB WB 3.1 boot CF. All is working I can see the 128Mb fast-ram and SysInfo gives me 99640, which is lower then exspected but higher than every value I ever have had on my A1200.

However, I am guessing something is wrong with the bootblock on this CF32GB. I prepared it almost the same way like smartroad78 did.

Could it help if I prepare the CF bootable on my winuae and then write it new with the downloaded coffinr56 image?

Mhh I think I missed a point. I have Gold 2.11 on my V1200. And I think coffinr56 needs minimum Gold2.12.  maybe thats the reason for the trouble... I'll give this a trial and report again..

flash the card to 2.12, you don't need a USB blaster, there is an exe for it, far better performance, and also far more stable.

r56 will work on 2.11, at least it did for me.. but i did have to comment out the VampireMap coffin.rom lines in startup-sequence. This isn't necessary on 2.12, but it was on 2.11.

also if you're new to vampire, don't hesitate and go straight out and buy a usb-blaster! you're going to need it eventually, trust me. i've had more than a few times on multiple v2's that didnt successfully update the core using the exe method. And you'll just be left with an usable vampire until you get a usb-blaster.

Hi I did this exe flash last night. Good news, r56 runs with high performance now (147K stones). There is one left over: The new r56 CF only boots up from the on board IDE port but with "DIGITAL-VIDEO". This is acceptable but I think there must be a script or something to switch that to the Vampire IDE.
  Br & thx Lao Mu

Lao Mu, stock 2.12 core does not have VampireIDE enabled. You need to use amiga´s on-board IDE.
Gunnar has posted info about upcoming new core version with both Amiga and Vampire IDE enabled. Read it and be patient. EXTERNAL LINK
