I’ll completely avoid using and or buying any software that employs any anti-Vampire measures. We certainly don’t need this in our small community.

I wouldnt make such a fuzz about his decision, since its his software. And I kinda agree with DamienD, move on, since ALB42 seems to have made up his mind.

Regarding the legality of Coffin;

While I understand Gunnars Abandonware stance, I also belive its illegal. That said, I dont actually care, since I have ALOT of disks with different versions of AOS, and have sunk enough money into the OS. I feel completely at peace using Coffin.

AROS is the way forward anyhow, so his stance will increasingly become invalid by natural development.

Did you guys even take the time to read what the author posted?  He said that future versions of his app would work on the Vampire but apparently most of the of the folks in this thread either don't read and comprehend or they're just looking for an excuse to break out the torches and pitch forks.

oh?
Sorry I forget to remove that from my template, sorry, next version will work again. I got a lot of bugfixes, hence I have to make a bugfix version.

It would be nice if next version would work.

Edit: I see he reacted on my comment, that is good.

And this one is ever more recent. So I am glad people get to their senses, and matters resolve in everyones best interest. Division is an enemy.

yeah, if I have time to make a new release of Leu and MUIMapparium, already planed a while, but I’m too busy with other stuff.
It was my try to point to a problem… seems not many people care.. so it became stupid and useless… therefore I decided a while before already to remove that. Also I wanted to open all my sources as some open source stuff, just need a little bit time to order stuff, especially in MUIMapparium, thats the reason I didn’t do it until now.
I dist just forget about this when starting MCAmiga and because it is in my default version keeping it came in again. Sorry again.

Yes, and it's amazing how quickly the paranoia and ignorance kicked in before anyone even tried to contact the author about his app.  Too many clowns just assumed that since his app didn't work on the Vampire that his intentions were bad.  Again, please put down the pitch forks and torches and communicate with people instead of always assuming the worst.  The Amiga scene is ugly enough without people jumping to conclusions just because an app fails to run on the Vampire.

Author did implement the mechanism in his software and did publicly equalize Vampire with illegality (Coffin in his mind).

He acknowledged that since his (I assume December 2019) decision to use mechanism - he found futile, and will remove the vamp check mechanism in future, only few hours ago. It wasnt known and found in forums or at his blog.

You are right in one thing - communication without anger can help.

And, Amiga scene can be ugly. But so was his mechanism.

Steve, that wasn't just any assumption, but the message from the program itself was clearly saying that it's actively blocking that setup.

So the intention is clear and he gave up on it now.

His intentions were to combat piracy.  He had/has no ax to grind with the Vampire, AROS, Coffin, or the Apollo team but almost everyone in this thread including you assumed the worst instead of reaching out with a bug report or just a simple message asking him about the app.

ah good to know, btw. just as a secret, MUIMapparium works on AROS also on Vampire, it tests for AROS. And AmiKit asked for a special Version with AmiKit detection, which I sent to him which works on AmiKit on Vampire as well. (but thats only MUIMapparium, in Leu and MCAmiga its the old template)
A friendly email can solve a lot of problems.

Back in the day we used to have skilled coders that could make "after market unofficial patches" **cough cough** to fix something like this ..

Great work on pushing the author there!  He has finally made the right decision to remove the vampire lockout from his software.  Just goes to show that he might be reasonable after all.  Nice job Vojin!

A bug report?? Are you kidding? It was obvious that his message was not a bug. Author had nothing against vampire? Read the Eab thread please..Now we know he found the time to remove the protection for AmikitX (commercial distribution) but had no time to remove it from the standard free distribution of his programs (he couldn't just publish the version he've done for Amikit?). Seriously..
Is not obvious who's the one that raised the torch and fork to punish all vampire users because some of them play with 'unlicensed' software? Doesn't this applies to all Amiga users?

sure you can look it that way.
But whats wrong with considering giving up on Coffin?

  so you could also say:
We always complain that we have not enough developer but the ones we have, we annoy by publishing his/her software without consent and if he/she fights against it, we call him/her childish.

Igor makes Coffin?  Did Igor know that?  :-)

ALB42 released his MC commander clone under a creative commons licence.  He has also agreed to remove the "Vampire Lockout".  Maybe he is a reasonable person after all.

we must not continue that discussion

the software obviously blocked vampire as hardware and that is changed now. It was no "bug" but intentionally. That is changed now so no further discussions needed

Yeah agreed! Thanks Vojin for posting his response.
If ALB42 does indeed reverse his decision on this, then I want to say a huge thanks to him and look forward to using his software.
