IBROWSE 2.5 RELEASED!

30th August 2019 - Oliver Roberts and the IBrowse Team are pleased to
announce the immediate release of IBrowse 2.5 for AmigaOS 3.x and 4.x.
After many years in the making, development has been on a roller
coaster since IBrowse 2.4, with challenging personal, technical and
commercial issues complicating the release schedule. However, we are
extremely happy to finally make this new version available to all the
valued users who have been waiting so patiently.

IBrowse 2.5 fixes many bugs, making it the most stable and fastest
version yet, but more importantly brings modern SSL/TLS support and a
fully native AmigaOS 4.x build. Below is a very brief summary of the
key changes since version 2.4:

- Brand new OS4 PPC native version. This is not a simple port, but
we have taken great care to ensure it fully utilises of all the
relevant new features avaiable in OS4 and as such requires a
minimum of OS4.1 Final Edition. Uses the new graphics.library RTG
system, dropping CyberGraphX support completely. Other features
include faster image rendering using hardware compositing,
anti-aliased text rendering and proper daylight saving time
    handling.

  - Support for AmiSSLv4 has been added to IBrowse 2.5, allowing the
use of the most up to date SSL implementation available for
AmigaOS, including TLSv1.3, based on the most recent versions of
    OpenSSL.

  - Integrated with new MUI 4.0 and 5.0 features, including new context
sensitive mouse pointers, support for various built-in MUI menus
and other new GUI additions. MUI 3.8 is still supported (although
we recommend 3.9 as a minimum).

  - Browser spoofing strings can now be customised in a variety of
different ways with up to 128 user defined strings available in
    the preferences.

  - All the internal image decoders have been improved, with various
fixes, alpha channel handling, and speed optimisations. The JPEG
and PNG decoders now fully utilise the decoding improvements and
optimisations from the current Warp Datatypes, which also
includes AltiVec acceleration in the JPEG decoder.

  - Full alpha channel support on >= 15-bit displays (OS4 only).

  - 4Gb+ file handling and downloads, with files bigger than 2Gb now
being handled properly in the GUI (OS4 only).

  - The OpenSearch standard is now supported for allowing search
engines to automatically be added to the search bar, in addition
to the existing older Sherlock/Mycroft support from IBrowse 2.4.

  - TextEditField object has had an overhaul, fixing various issues
and adding new features. Rendering is done in a more MUI4/5
compatible manner allowing these objects to inherit your MUI
settings. Your mousewheel can now be used for scrolling and
various MUI defined keyboard shortcuts are now honoured.

  - Improved general stability and memory leaks plugged.

  - Hundreds of other minor and major bug fixes + improvements, and
increased tolerance of broken sites for better compatibility.

IBrowse 2.5 is available directly from our website - to purchase
the full version, please visit EXTERNAL LINK  (special discounted upgrades available to registered users of
  IBrowse 2.x and 1.x).

I am saving my money. I have Netsurf. That is sufficient enough for me and IT IS ALSO FOR FREE. I would take this money spend on ibrowse and donate to the author of netsurf instead. That would make more sense to me.

They couldn't even get this right:

- 4Gb+ file handling and downloads, with files bigger than 2Gb now
being handled properly in the GUI (OS4 only).

OS4 only? -_-.....

we can hope some of OS4 feats will be backported, but its clear Ibrowse will in 3+ also have some advanced OS4 feats only.

The only way arti can give us what we want..which is a MUI interface system, better download management, integrated menu system, go to preference under the menu like any browsers, have ability to have a bookmark stored under your menu like a normal browser....etc...the only way that can be done...is to donate to him and give him money.

Arti cannot do this on his own...impossible for one person to do it.....but if we give  him good amount of cash...he can take this for example and get more bodies to help make this...THE ULTIMATE browser. It could come as close as Odyssey browser from MorphOS or even AROS x86...anything is possible. Vampire hardware is becoming stronger each new release...we support the hardware...we may get ASIC in future..who knows...you have ASIC in future...the excuse of ...your hardware is too weak to support modern browser goes out the window. Support Arti...he will make the browser modern...

it all goes back to support from the community....waving your hands and tantrum like a baby will bring nothing.....people should think where they would need to put their support....I hope people make the smart decision however.

I have the impression that the Ibrowse 2.5 release is very disappointing for 68k users.

Most of the development effort seems to be done into porting the browser to PPC.

Ibrowse, Voyager and AWEB were state of the art browser in the 90th.
At that time you could use them for normal Internet access.

But HTML standards did change and all these 3 browser can only display few websites today.

Ibrowse 2.5 still can not display modern HTML and can not show todays websites correctly.
Its a pity that not much work was done in this regard.
The free Netsurf is _much_ better to display modern websites.

If you decide to buy Ibrowse,
be advised to disable its buildin JPEG decoder
and instead use the AMMX dataype on your system!
The AMMX datatype is a lot faster than the buildin decoder in Ibrowse.

Agreed.

Paying 55 euro for something that, from my initial testing, is only a little bit better than iBrowse 2.4 is way too much money. I have a sneaking suspicion that most efforts will be concentrated on PPC development.

Strange that they do so much more effort for PPC development since there are a lot more 68K users, it being Vampire users or WinUAE users, i think those outnumber PPC users by far.

Paying 54 EUR for a browser that is stone age in todays terms is weird. And if they concentrate on their beloved AOS4 then it is their choice. I am self employed, I have to concentrate where the potential money is. For me such priorities are not understandable. But it is their choice.

A new modern up-to-date browser with new GUI and the promise to keep it up to date in future might worth 54 EUR but not this. But this has everyone to decide for himself.

Not worth the money. At least the 68k version. Have no opinion about the PPC thing version.

Generally my browsing sessions on iBrowse never usually exceed 30 minutes anyway, so I think I will stick with the demo version. And even if the program closes after 30 minutes I don't mind re-opening it again if I need to go longer. Meh.

68k demo Can be downloaded

Flash plugin, amiSSL and MUI Are required for full functionality and can also be downloaded from here

On os4 side: owb, Odyssey are mui and way more advanced but Ibrowse Has most Amiga GUI feel.

On html3 days: I preferred Voyager 3 and other VapourWare sotware for chat, even metalWeb. Too bad they have really gone Vapor, no website, just memory and few evidences on aminet

Yes I know this. I'm using it at the moment and hence why I said I will just stick with the demo version. I sometimes use iBrowse instead of NetSurf, but only for certain websites because it is still a bit quicker than NetSurf. Otherwise, NetSurf is still my preferred browser.

iBrowse in its current form is not worth the 54,99 Euro.

Honestly...the only update I want from netsurf (in Netsurf 4.0) is support of the new SSL where it can open all encrypted https: without any issue. If Netsurf 4.0 only offer THIS one feature...I am content with no update of netsurf for years to come.

I am really enjoying watching movies on my DVD (burned and converted) then youtube it on my Amiga. Serious. I love the experience of downloading a movie, converting to mpg, burning it into a dvd and then shoving it in the tray...THAT IS MY NEW FETISH now.......I am enjoying this entire process MORE than just plain watching movie online.

For example, I am watching Alien Covenant on my Amiga 500 now...via my DVD...FUN..FUN..FUN...FUN.....but if netsurf have that AmiSSL updated (into it) where I can view https: like that....to me...the browser 68k for Amiga is complete. I can do almost all my essential browsing just fine.

With Netsurf I can view pictures when I go google and click images...but because NOW most sites are https: and they have the latest encryption...Netsurf is unable to view them...it need just update. However, it renders all pages 100% perfect..from google.com to any website...even youtube.....

So we need to focus on this browser. I think netsurf should be part of the integrated browser with Vampire default OS like Microsoft did with Windows and internet explorer. I pray..that for every new release of netsurf it is noticeably better than the previous version : adding more stability, more features and new looks and interfaces....

I guarantee you...even MorphOS/AmigaOS4/AROS will be using Netsurf as their main browser if it get the support it needs....

The best part about it...new generations will have the same browser on their PC/Windows/Mac/Linux as they do on Amiga since this browser is open source and is ported on other platforms....Amiga is using  a mainstream browser if you look at it...

On Ibrowse shopping page there are two price tags for upgrading to os4+os3 version or to just update Os3.x one. But there's only a price to buy a new key! 55 euros could be Ok for a new, never released Os4 version, but is an abnormity for the updated 68k version. A price tag of 35 euros for 68k version-only would be a natural option. I don't need ibrowse key for Os4, why I have to pay for that??

Silly thing. The Os3 upgrade for 2.x registered Ibrowse is on 15 euros range, that's perfectly acceptable.
A new Os 3 licence must be on 30-35 euros range to be sellable.

Let me make an analogy with WinUAE, why buy a Vampire if WinUAE is more compatible with a real Amiga than a Vampire and it cost less...
I guess it is not fair to "attack" Ibrowse like this, I suppose that if sales goes well they'll improve the compatibility with actual standard. I'd say if their plan is to playing catch up it is not a bad deal but it'll take time like always in the Amiga land.
