Hi all,

I received my HanRun HR911105A today and connected it to my Vampire 500 v2+

I ran the wizard to install V2ExpETH and all seemed to go fine. However when I run IBrowse it says 'Unable to open bsdsocket.library or compatible networking interface'

I'm new to ethernet on the Amiga, so apologies if this is a daft question or has been answered a hundred times before!

Thanks
Colin

HanRun HR911105A is the Manufacturer/part number for the Ethernet socket, which many similar Ethernet devices use this same socket and a lot of internet retailers mislabel the entire device as that part number as it's very prominently written on the top. So are you 100% sure you have a 3.3V ENC28J60 Ethernet LAN adapter?

Hi Roy,

it was advertised as 3.3V and it does say ENC28J60 on the back of the unit.

I used the Wizard to set it up:
  Selected - LAN
  Selected - DHCP
  Selected NetInterface - V2ExpETH
  It said 'V2ExpETH' interface added
Ran IBrowse - any search results in the above error...

  Update:
  I conducted v2expethtest and verdict:
This test determined that your sdnet is quite likely in working shape. cleaning up

I'm using Coffin R54 which I think is Roadshow (test version)

It doesn't seem to ping sites successfully and now gives the following error in IBrowse:
Host lookup failed, no DNS entry found

test version is only for about 8 minutes, maybe when you try is already off, after start of computer open shell and type addnetinterface v2expeth,then write what happened
if configuration pass ok, try to surf

rebooted and typed the above into Shell. It says:
addnet interface: Could not add interface "v2expeth" (Device busy)

Tried to surf but whatever page you request it sticks on Looking up www.etc.... for a few minutes then gives message (Host lookup failed, no DNS entry found)

i recon i can get about 1 to 1.5 megabits per second on my similar setup. its enough to stream music/lowbitrate video. usually better copy the media stream locally and playback from disk/ram - which is what the youtube player does, plus convert to mpeg1 i think - but i'm probably wrong on that :D

have been able to convert recorded TV streams from mp4 to something like 320x240 or 160x120 mpeg1, and play back from an SMB network share (audio disabled). glitchy video is much less noticable with no glitchy audio that can be quite jarring :D

gratz on getting it working though :)

well yeah, make sure the network cable is straight with no kinks in it, and that it's coming downhill from the server to your machine for the 1's and 0's to get a gravity assist, and the wind is blowing in the right direction... :)

I've seen between 120,000 and 160,000 "characters" (bytes) per second downloading from aminet.

remotedesktop works surprisingly well, although i think it doesn't support whatever authentication or IP encapsulation method we have setup for remoteing into my work as it just times out if i try working from home on my vampire500 setup annoyingly. otherwise it'd be another nail in the coffin of having a PC at my desk at home.

I've disconnected my ethernet adaptor now as it was unusable, far too slow.

I might give it another go at a future date, but for now it's going in the draw....

oh sorry to hear that...
what IP Stack were you using?
i've had good results with Genesis from the OS3.9 set and roadshow demo - although, i must admit, even though i bought roadshow, i never installed it, but just stuck with Genesis
