You didn’t answer my question.

How can make a coder sure that you ask him before publish his stuff and if he does not agree that you follow this wish? (For whatever reason, I know plenty of them, don’t want to have it on such illegal platform, want control the downloads self, version is buggy soon comes a new, just don’t like the project, but in principle does not need a reason his work his rules)

Gernt:
I understand your point, but the story that coffin's existance discourages development on Amiga seems a little exagerated. Maybe I'm wrong but I did not found non-legit currently developed Amiga software on coffin. (Roadshow and cloud handlers, for example, are demo version)

With regards to AOS3.1/3.9;

Im sure most of us already own several copies of it, and dont feel particularly guilty using Coffin on THAT basis.
Its still illegal.
That said, the maintainers of AOS 3.x isnt even trying to keep it up to date, but rather waste time and resources infighting.
And Ive purchased several editions of Cloanto Amiga and C64, again, like many of us. So I have no reservations using Coffin in THAT regard.

Then with regards to Gernt Gerloff's concern with software in general on our platform. I share his views with regards to software on Coffin. If Coffin was the barebone skin/mods (requiring and AOS 3.x), I would still be quite happy with it.

But what about developers defending their rights;

I think there are several avenues you can take in that regard.

You can do like Jim Drew, go into angry mode, and threaten with lawyers. It did work, but I for one will not purchase Fusion at all, unless he makes a good Vampire spesific version going forward.
Would I have used Fusion in its current state, and paid Jim Drew?
Probably yes, if it was configured easy to use and not crash prone, to the point where you can get good utility out of it.

What about other developers with software that has been dormant for decades... Maybe they could contact the team AND community, conveying their reservations and wishes for their software?
Again; im extremely PRO developer, and gladly pay for software I actually use. Intead of feeling alientated, developers could tap into 100s (1000s??) of sales if they made some Apollo spesific tweaks, or even just raised their hands showing they where still alive and monitoring the community. In a positive way.

Bouncing off the wall, saying that they will never support Amiga community ever again sounds like a hollow threat when they havent updated their software for decades.

Again, Im extremely PRO developers, so people should view Coffin as a open door into buissniss, instead of as an insult.

Or maybe Im just being naive.

    For crying out loud, it doesn't matter if there are Amiga users who already own OS 3.9. That, in itself, does not make it legal to freely distribute OS3.9 within Coffin. The only time Coffin will be legal is if it follows the same model as Classic Workbench and requires the user to own and use the original operating system disks to install the base OS files and then all the other fluff can be installed over the top.

    Coffin is ILLEGAL because it makes a commercial OS available FOR FREE to people who DON'T OWN it, end of story. Seriously stop flogging a dead horse to justify reasons why people can use it!

  What people do behind closed doors regarding Coffin is up to them, but it should not be promoted on this website!! Period!!

    Certainly, I would love AmigaOS (situation) and Coffin to be more "legal". In present circumstances, I do like Coffin. There is a Coffin section at this website.

  And NO, it did not start with Coffin defense. It started with stating users, under no circumastances, should use it. Which is ... legal hustling :-) (that is how I call when something is by the law and by the book by unrealistic, untrue, unjust, unright, not realistic ...). Gladly, laws are there to be improved.

I find that this is under DECENCY not LEGALITY. If you publish your software as free/shareware, how do you really think to CONTROL DOWNLOAD .... of something e.g. already avail on Aminet.

I mean, in this terms of single coders and small tools, we speak of commands and libraries, small apps and personal projects (which can be great), but essentially, these are "AmigaOS add-ons" that extend AmigaOS abilities. Which essentially in powerfull edition, Coffin is.

No hypotetical situations, please name what you find dubious and how.

  As of included tools, name one where in readme author explicitly banned re-distribution.

  In fact, you are obliged (by curtousy, it would hardly do on court) to contact ONLY authors that have imposed such limits.

  Answer is in limitation section of Coffin.readme

  We do support those who do work.

  1) Roadshow is bundled as DEMO and will popup a nagscreen after a couple of minutes. You are highly encouraged to buy the full version which is still developped and supported. Roadshow has been proven to be the fastest Amiga TCP/IP stack on 68k and fully

  2) MUI 3.8 is still available as commercial product and can be bought. Throw your MUI.key to S: and enjoy.
