Now that we are happy ATARI OS users and play with FREEMINT all day.

I like to know if there are nice looking icons for FREEMINT?
What format of Icons does Atari support?

Could these PNG icons be used?

Its depend what Desktop is in Use. The Desktop what is used in Amitari is Teradesk and supports only .RSC what is a Icon file. But we could move to MyAES and adapt it to run perfect on Vampire there you can use normal .jpg files als icons and also for the Design elements like window look and feel. So its possiblle to maje MyAES looking like the Worbench ;)

Really nice idea to get visualy improved FreeMINT/AROS with a Vampire, as well as jampacked with anything that has proven to work and is free :-)

How many colors for the icons does RSC support?

Seems to be a vector Macintosh format up to 256 col.

Win to Mac icon conversion (incl. export to RSC)

It’s highly unlikely that the Mac RSC format is the same. The Atari RSC format is a container for all of the GEM UI widgets like Windows .rc files.

Back in the day, tools like Interface was considered the best, although this thread seems to present a few alternatives: EXTERNAL LINK
Note that the support for higher bitdepth icons depends upon the AES, VDI and desktop in use (MiNT itself doesn’t directly provide any of those 3 components)

True, its just the same extension name, but not really 100% same format. I suposse "our FreeMINT" runs XAES which has some customization options XAES Wiki at FreeMINT GitHub EXTERNAL LINK

Up to 256 colors, most RSC files are only 16 colors. 256 colors can be an issue as no palette is include in RSC file. Computer in 256 color  use or Atari palette (not nice at all coming by default with TOS) or NVDI palette (nice for dithering)
