Perhaps, we can set up go fund me or some other donation scheme to speed up the development. It sucks when you just bought a piece of hard to obtain hardware, and you have to wait for the next version that has no clear release date to get services first. Therefore, let's fund development, how's that?

Gold 3 was never promised for the V2 vampires, I think if anything it's just a bonus from the byproduct of V4 Vampire development.

Not sure how effective crowdfunding would be, The apollo core team and the guys manufacturing the Vampire are just a collective of volunteers that have real day jobs, it's not like it's a real company that can just hire talent, not sure if anyone with the right skills will just leave a stable job to do this kind of work.

No idea who would take vacation from the day job, and bang out something usable in a week or two, and pocket a bounty. But you are so right, the money would be better spent on V4 whenever it comes out. I'm just kicking myself right now for not sticking with RaspberryPi, and actually paying money for V2+. Haha.

The Vampire V2 is a very good accelerator card.
It has the fastest 68K CPU you can get.
It has a very fast memory and very fast RTG.
The current GOLD2.11 is good and stable.

GOLD 3 is planned for the V2 too.
Its obvious that the teams work focus is right now the V4.
The V2 is pretty stable with 2.X and will get more attention later again.

Your bounty idea is not that bad - it could be a way to motivate a developer to take some days off and spend some weekends to port latest developments from V4 to V2 sooner.

Im with the bounty idea too, the MiSTer project has benefited a lot from donations, While software part just requires time, hardware requires money! and sometimes problems happens like equipment die during testing/experiments.

I do agree at least one more improved beta gold3 that fixes some of the issues (resolution limit too, that is not yet full AGA) would be most welcome. But I would be happy to see that this year.

I agree that it would be nice, although I’m having good times with gold2 and without wishing to be a sycophant; grateful for having ide harddrive in my A500 along with FPU/RTG and a not insubstantial speed increase.
I do occasionally get the urge to flash gold3 for the AGA demos and games etc but hold off as I don’t know the physical limits of FPGA and therefore due to my ignorance I don’t know how many “writes” it can sustain or even if it matters.

According to the Intel website:

Altera does not specify the number of times you can reprogram or reconfigure FPGA devices because these devices are SRAM-based. An SRAM-based device can be reconfigured as often as a design requires; there is no specific limit.

Yeah, so no need to worry about a write limit.

As far as I can recall the fpga is configured every time you power it on, losing it's configuration each time you turn the power off.

And Andrew Miller thank you  for the reply. Nice to know that I can enjoy both.

Yes, that is true however the FPGA gets the configuration from a flash chip and that chip has a certain write limit. If the flash wears out then it can cause problems. However I believe with normal use you will never reach that limit.

in reality if the alpha aga core could have another working screen mode besides 640x200 like 640x480 or something having this could already make it much more usable.

Any chance for a refreshed alpha release anytime soon?

Thanks for your hard work!

I loaded the alpha core on my 500 recently and it works pretty well! I managed to play every OCS/ECS game I tried (I have a bone stock ocs A500 without any memory expansion). Most of the AGA games I tried also worked although there were a few that were wonky, and no having to mess around with dual monitors or switchers. Everything just went out the DIGITAL-VIDEO of the vampire. You DO lose the high res desktop afforded by RTG though.

Def gives me hope for an upgraded saga capable core once the v4 hits and they had a chance to catch their breath.

Thanks for the information! I bought Vampire just for AGA, and of course for the speed!
But that Alpha core has been out for 1+ years, isn't it time for a Beta Core? I hope so.
And my Usb blaster is probably on the seabed, I've been waiting for 4 weeks now ... Grrr

I've tried running Andromeda's Nexus 7 demo with the alpha release, and it kept crashing before the Goraud Pulse part unless turtle mode was enabled. With turtle mode it would get to the Goraud Pulse, but it would show the same glitches as the MIST/MISTER. Also, there seems to be issues in every part... In the initial scene somehow the scaling for "Andromeda" gets messed up, and "ndromeda" is only visible. In the part with a bouncing ball, there is a horizontal lines on the right side visible.

Gold 3.0 core for the V2 Vampires is over a year old and in real alpha state, curious if the issue exists on the current V4 core which has had continuous development over the last year for the V4 bring up.

I cant remember off-hand how I installed the driver but I think this worked. Cant remember what driver it was, might have only shown one when I browsed for it.
