Hi guys is gold 3.0 Alpha likely to be released in a similar way to the gold 2.x and silver release?

We are bursting to see 4mb chip ram in AGA :-)

thanks

Sneaky thing one has to "turn on the Amiga" :-)

After Gold 3 Alpha there will probably be Gold 3 Beta then the release of Gold 3.
I'm guessing there will be incremental improvements to the core just as 2.x

So, with gold3.0 we will get video (with scan lines)and sound on the hdmi? no more switching to Amiga RGB?

yes but still no RTG - this will only be really usefull when both AGA and RTG are in the same core over Hdmi

Would be nice to have all those features in one core, and also separate options in other ones.

They will be all in one core when gold 3 is released.
Apart from reflashing to an earlier core I can't see there being multiple versions with different options.

What options are you thinking of?

With aga or not, fpu or not, rtg or not.

I imagine it would be a single core variant that has full functionality, having command line arguments or a Prefs program that lets you enable or disable Core features. The current core allows this. The only reason I can see for separate featured cores, is if there isn't enough room for all of the features on the Cyclone FPGA.

I don't understand the desire to turn features off. I mean, if you don't want something, just don't use it.

Don't want AGA - don't play AGA games or open AGA screen modes.
Don't want an FPU - use the non fpu executable version of your software.
Don't want RTG - don't open or even install those screen modes.

Yes but that means you want people to be an individual and different from other and have them decide how to use their items by their own decision without enforcing their opinion or feature on others and we can't have that!!! We want to be spoon fed and told what we want and desire and if one of us don't like it..we want to whine and complain and make it a feature so everyone else have to conform to our whims and desires by demanding certain features disable while others want it..but we can't have the others to want it have an option to have it because we have to shove down their throats what other group of people who don't want it.

- drinks water and places cup on table - Aaah! That was a mouthful.

The solution to this is easy....use GOLD2.

We have 2 branches at the moment and, when GOLD3 gets to a stage where it will see a stable release, it only takes a couple of minutes to flash between GOLD2 or GOLD3 depending on what your needs are at the time and what you feel like.

For instance, If I want to play AGA games on my A600 I can flash GOLD3. But, at the same time, I still love seeing my games through a nice high quality big CRT display with it's scanlines. So in that case, I can flash back to GOLD2 so I can play these games through the RGB port. With my setup I have 2 displays, a LCD display through the DIGITAL-VIDEO port for my lovely RTG workbench display and a nice 72cm CRT TV for my OCS/ECS games.

Having two branches provides a lot of freedom for V500 and V600 users. I'm hoping that GOLD2 continues to get some love to help improve compatibility with older WHDLoad games that still aren't working at the moment.

What would be really cool if there was an executable that could erase the FPGA so you could use the base machine for games that refused to work. :)

its a pain to have to have the amiga tethered to a pc or laptop inorder to flash between the two cores - not ideal at all... ideal is RTG and AGA in the same core been banging on about this for so long I feel like everytime i mention it i am wasting effort!!!

What I was saying before would only work if the cores can be conveniently flashed with executables within the Amiga instead of using the JIC file with a USB Blaster. Obviously we have executable files for GOLD2 but not for GOLD3 yet since it is in testing phase at the moment. Will just have to wait until GOLD3 is stable enough so that we can flash with an executable.

For some of us Core 2xx is not a good solution. I have a Amiga 1000 with OCS. So i have just 0,5 mb chipram

I was told in another post on here that the reason for RTG being removed from the GOLD 3 alpha is in order to test the AGA functionality however the way I see it and for the life of me I dont understand why nobody else see's it this way - I think RTG and AGA should be in the Alpha as they are going to be together eventually so why not start testing the 2 things together now? this way you find out if there are any issues with the 2 things co-existing and you make all the people happy who want RTG (ME for one) whilst serving the people who want more chipram for there 1000/2000 and what not? this is an appeal to the team (Big Gun Im looking at you sir) cant you just give us the next alpha with RTG please?
