thanks for the info. it kinda ties up with what i understood already - just wanted to be sure if i was correct the information available.

i did think CC0: was a lie from the ide controller. maybe it should be called Cake:?

a "hybrid" fpu is what i understand the G3 core to be potentially  having. mix of hard and soft instructions.
plus:-
AGA, RTG, configurable chip ram, "pamela" audio over DIGITAL-VIDEO, one 68080 core and a partridge in a pear treeeeeeee...

as someone said a while back, a float op is just an int op with a wobbly decimal point :D

I think that a question to the team can be: what we can expect from new cores? We all know that Aga implementation is next big thing to happen but due to space restriction of v2 there will be:
Complete removal of hw fpu? Fpu precision reduction or some kind of magic squeezing of code?

They have been really quiet on this subject.. either they are preparing to "surprise and delight us" ala Steve Jobs "one more thing" .. or they are still working very hard to try to get everything squeezed in and of course complete and proper testing and as much vetting as they can..  I hope they can pull off a miracle and get everything delivered (even if its a reduced precision FPU).. that said, I'd be happy with alternative cores where I can decide what feature set I want, as long as I got a few options eg with/without FPU, with/without RTG, with/without AGA.. etc.. (i.e. combinations of 2 of the previous, eg with RTG and AGA but without FPU, with FPU WITH AGA but without RTG, etc..)

Theoretically, FPGA offers flexibility, as cores 2-2.9 proved great feature progress and changes of just certain aspects while keeping previous feats.

While v2 users will get fixes and little tweaks, with GOLD3 its about much as it could be in that sized FPGA. And that is natural, physical limitation. Best we could play is with couple of combinations of FPGA eating feats. like mentioned.

However, it seems Apollo Core will show much more maturity in v4 generation, coupled with faster RAM for fast controller, more cache for CPU, larger space for full featured "Apollo" FPU and of course all things seen so far, and SAGA/AGA/RTG/OCS/ECS coming from Vampire, making standalone live. Plus dual kickstart space, USB, LAN out of box!

Could be a competative multimedia machine in 1999. Too bad we had to wait until 2018/2019 ... But better now then never!

Quite a lot is offered with v2 generation, I dont really see why people would be dissapointed. Simple check what was it with silver and is now with gold cores shows tramendous progress.

Added newly registered Vamp numbers resulting in removal
of b/w HMDI out on those. No new real feats.

Generally Vamp feats now mandatory registration and check is included in core. New batch wasnt included in original 2.9 release.

So - REGISTER FIRST, DOWNLOAD CORES LATER :-) Otherwise, one might be surprised with b/w world!

Why do you do this. Surely it's not like the cores can be used for anything other than Vampire cards so why cripple them for people who haven't registered? Not criticising, just interested to know why?

As I understand it someone took Vampire design illegal and started to produce and sell on its own. They try to avoid this by the registration

Vampires are now availiable via Amiga dealers, and unless its Majsta or other proven seller, ebay and other sources are not advised as places to buy from.

Am I in already? Registered today, that would be very quick!

Update: apparently yes, I have color over DIGITAL-VIDEO with core 2.9. Thanks so much for the extremely quick core update!
