Thanks Gunnar. Yeah it was a connection problem. I seem to have fixed it, so will test things out.

I cant find the post now but someone was reccommending a certain PLC socket from a particular supplier that was supposed to be quite good. Anyone got any idea where i can get some spare?

Thanks heaps for your replies guys, really appreciated. :)

I have the same problem for 1 month and despite cleaning and straightening the pin connector, I still have the green screen. I do not know what to do.

Have a chat with Majsta on IRC or send him an email to give you a hand.

To determine if it was a contact issue, I pressed down firmly but gently on the Vampire while turning on the A600. I didn't press down excessively hard otherwise damage to the motherboard or Vampire might have occurred. Sure enough, it started up fine.

Some others on this forum have mentioned that the PLCC socket used in the Kipper2K built V600 V2's weren't all that good and were a bit too deep and therefore did not snap down on the CPU far enough or securely enough. So they gently sanded down the face of the socket. Not too much otherwise contacts could be damaged.

Others de-soldered (like myself) the PLCC socket and put a better quality one in there. You have to make sure a cutout is made in the corner of the socket to clear the surface mounted resistor sitting next to the CPU.

I wouldn't recommend doing any of that if you're not confident or lack the experience. I would get in contact with Majsta first.

My Vampire 600 V2.1 works great. Built by Majsta himself (recent purchase). Snaps easily and firmly on the 68000 CPU. Too easy actually. Out of habbit, I spray the CPU and Socket contacts with Electronics Contact cleaner before assembly. I am using IBrowse via my PCMCIA Ethernet adapter and RoadShow to reply to this post (with Delitracker playing my Mod collection in the background). Damn, I love these machines!

I hear you bro! That's exactly what goes through my mind when I do the same thing on my machine. For some reason the experience never gets old and enjoy using it more than my Windows machines,
