I thought that as some purchasers are worrying about their boards I might start this useless topic to ease the troubled minds.
I had a very pleasant surprise today when I got home from work. There on the table was my Vampire in the parcel. I opened it to make sure all was good as the Australian Border Force had already opened it to inspect it. It might have been full of drugs or something.
Any way all was good. I now just have to wait until the 1st August to receive it as my birthday present from the Cheese and Kisses (misses) (wife).
It was posted on the 29th of June and arrived on the 21st of July. 23 days which I think is pretty good from Europe to East Coast Australia.
I was about number 1550 and something on the list so that might give you an idea as to how much longer you may have to wait. When Igor Majsta contacted me to advise he had received payment he explained that it would be about 3 months until shipment. It was, so I am very happy with the time frame for the price I paid.
For all those other people out there waiting please be patient after all anything worth having is worth waiting for.

My package from Majsta had a distinct tobacco smell so maybe that sets off some alarms in customs in case they think it may contain something else than regular tobacco. :-)

'anything worth having is worth waiting for' - completely agree and after having supported many retro-projects through the last couple of years I have learned how to be patient as these things can take a long time and delays should be expected.

LOL. Yes, mine smelled like tobacco too! I let it air out for a few days before installing it, but the accelerator card works fine!

I did not smell anything but once you people mentioned I went and had a good sniff and yes there is a Tobacco smell although I would say more like cigarette smoke smell to me.
We have very strict No Smoking laws in our country pertaining to workplaces and public buildings but not sure about where the boxes were made. I can mange that as long as the Vampire works.
Airing for a couple of days should solve the problem.
Thinking about it the Border Force here use sniffer dogs so that may be why it got picked out cause the dogs would have smelled the smoke.

As I wanted to keep the box but found the tobacco smell really strong and disturbing, I just simply wiped down the box inside and out with a paper towel spritzed liberally with febreze .. that did the trick..

tobacco smell is a problem ?
maybe would react badly if you knew the custom's dog probably licked, drooled or lost some furr on your parcel.
wait, what if the custom's guard said at some point some vulgar words in front of your innocent parcel ?
the apollo team is So evil for intentionaly making your parcel to brave such harsh conditions. maybe some public apologies should be done ?
;)

  No.
It came up in the course of the conversation about me receiving my Vampire.

Customs dogs do not lick, drool or lose fur. They Sniff.

I think you are smoking something other than tobacco

Nobody has placed blame on anyone for anything. All that was discussed above was just an observation made by a few people about their Vampires.
Perhaps you think the Apollo team are evil (you said it first) and it is perhaps you who should be apologising to them.
I will apologise to you if you have not yet received your Vampire and can't stand the wait. Just be patient.

The Team have done a great job in delivering the Worlds fastest Amiga at a remarkable price to an ever growing number of Fans.
  Cheers from Downunder!

Well, I know its all about health & ecology, but hey, dont blame
the smokers, blame the legal tobacco :-)

Its so common in Balkans, most men and women 18+ do smoke. Its changing bad habit, but yet resilliant to harsh EU laws and even
heavy tobacco taxation. At same time Bosnian tobacco is one of the finest.

here's a new theory.
maybe, just maybe, part of what makes vampire-apollo combo so good to use is because of that very special mix (most probably
of hallucinogenic nature) made of tobacco smell, dog saliva and fur with also some harsh words uttered by custom guards in front of the parcels. when users receive their packages and breathe the "air" coming out of it, they become addicted and imagine in their heads that it is marvelous and all powerful?
of course... that must be it.
it couldn't be solely because of its intrinsic value, as natami upgrade kit, could it ?

now that i know the true secret of the team, i could start rival business or partnership with existing companies..i bet this info will interest some of them, for their next ground breaking product ..68010 based "accelerator" cards. they'll use it to compete.

apollo team, you can start worrying now.

Holy sh*t, our secret has been discovered. Igor should switch to a more advanced tobacco technology now.

Where's some input from Thierry when you need it to round off the thread.

Great to see the Amiga community have a sense of humour.

I always thought if you let the smoke out it stopped working.

I will give some updates once I get mine installed and running.

Cheers People
Alan
