Right now I am trying to run Deluxe Paint with the Vampire rtg mode.
If I choose lo-res it will display to rgb monitor. Fine.

I want to use higher resolutions but everyone I pick at start up crashes machine. Just not going to happen or is their some set up I can do to fix?

Personal Paint works decent though.

DPaint doesn't really work with RTG, you should wait for SAGA to improve and cross your fingers that it will do higher resolution planar modes too.

From the manual:

"The program will approximate the RGB information on screen using the colours available to the screen mode selected - the more colours available to the screen mode, the more accurate the RGB approximation will be."

But not done.

Which version of DPAINT are you using?

Exactly, with the apparent exception of Dpaint IV (or was it 4.5?)

No exception.

DPaint didn't even support AGA before the "special" version DPain IV AGA - aka DPaint 4.5.  DPaint V (or 5) was supposed to better support RTG, but it never really happened, for a number reasons - there was really no RTG standard defined (this was before CGfx/P96), and DPaint 5 was shipped before it was really finished, just before they dropped all Amiga support.

This has nothing to do with RTG, this is about the way the image data is stored, using 24bit RGB values even though the screen mode is not 24bit (but rather HAM8 for example).

Brilliance has the same thing.

I have tried four and version five. Five is the only one that gives a menu for rtg.
No big deal, the nature of the program. Just don't try to work in rtg modes with program.
I have installed XI paint and Personal paint and both work in Rtg just fine.
Brilliance is just for planar modes like Dpaint.

TV paint freezes on rtg selection screen. I have an Amibian setup with all these installed. TV paint works and even Dpaint sort of. With Dpaint all resolutions work but screen menus are funky and barely readable.

Anybody know when Deluxe paint six is coming out :)

  Sadly never ;)

But, this is exactly why I have been trying to get information about (hopefully improved) legacy planar modes for SAGA. For paint jobs one can just use some other program, but for animation in particular, DPaint is quite unique in its simplicity.
