Hmmm....I placed the 3.5" hard drive in the IDE port. I placed the power cable on the power port, I turn it on...and the hard drive does not spin and no power coming to it. What advise?

If your HD not spins and has no power then it sounds like you not connected the power correctly.

What Amiga model do you have?
To where in the Amiga did you connect the HD power?

I have amiga 500. I connect the power into the power port on the firebird. I tried both ways and still does not work. Does ApolloOS detect the IDE ports?

Which power port of the Firebird do you mean?

Can you please explain me what you mean by "tried both ways"

Ooh the four in power...I tried it put it in one way then switched it the other way (flipping) and still nothing.

Like literally zero power going to the hard drive. Is there a special switch that activate the 3.5" IDE?

Please note: that this is extra power INPUT into the Firebird!
This is clearly explained in the firebird manual.

Please understand: This it is NOT a power output to drive anything from the Firebird.

Please take the time to carefully read the Firebird manual!

Please never do this!
Please understand that the power cable has both 12v and 5v wires!

If you switch the cable "the other way" - then you connect the 12V to 5V chips - doing this will destroy whatever your connect there, e.g. you can destroy your Amiga with this.

Phew , it is a relief I thought it is output and not input…no harm done this way!! Thanks for the warning.  The manual never explained it. So, how do I power the drive?

Well, the manual tries to explain it:
Manual wrote:

The Power connector P12 is only for adding PWR to the FIREBIRD, not for powering other devices (normally not needed).

  Is this not clear?

Apologies, missed it. Plus reading P12 I wouldn't know what P12 is. Then how do I give it power?

Sorry that this was not clear.
The components are labelled on the PCB.
"P12" is the label of the powerplug.
If you have a look again at your picture that you posted,
you will find the "P12" label next to your circle you painted.
Its maybe a bit small to read.

But maybe its good idea to rethink
using a 3.5" drive in the Amiga 500?

We know that a 3.5" HDD drive can eat up to 15 Watts of power.
This is quite a lot of juice needed.

Is the A500 designed to power this?
No its not.

Of course an Amiga 2000 can power this.

But for the A500 maybe a better solution is use a CF card?

Thank you for the quick reply and warning. It is an awesome card and looking forward forward to using it.

Hey, I have one last question to ask. When I used a 2.5" IDE hard drive it too did not power at all on the 2.5" IDE port. Is that also normal?

2.5 IDE HDD should run without problems - assuming they are correctly connected. A number of people use them with their V2 and V4.

You are right. I did successfully get it running. I suppose 2.5" IDE HDD is similar to CF.
