| Now that the production of the A500 Vampire2+ fis ramping up and the A1200 Vampire 2 is around the corner, we can start thinking about the future with a Vampire 2 Standalone to play with.
Not much is known at moment about that board but one thing is sure there's a new X500 casing from Loriano Pagni that would match it without a doubt.

For using this case the board must comply to the fixing and back plates.- This Vampire 2 board aka Phoenix board will certainly have the Arria 10 FPGA Will it have the same expansion ports as the V1200 as Gunnar announced in an other post?

The V1200 has 2 expansion ports.
These ports are much faster than old Clockport.
There will be USB, Network, and Wifi expansion for them.
We are right now testing / developing drivers for those expansions.

| I'm not overly keen on the look of previous case projects from Loriano Pagni. I recognise the difficulty of producing something aesthetically pleasing with limited funding and if people like them then good for them but they aren't for me, however the new case may be better so I look forward to seeing it. If the team plan to target a wedge/keyboard computer rather than "big box" then I would hope they would design it around the new A1200 replica cases (or some variant of them) although keyboard supplies could be an issue there. From what I've heard the first stand alone is likely to be a relatively low end system utilising a Cyclone series FPGA, possibly a Cyclone 5 with features very similar to the 1200 accelerator. I think the design has probably been largely complete for quite some time as hints of a possible reveal were being given a few months ago but for whatever reason (possibly technical issues like drivers or chips set, collaboration on components or software for a system or strategic delay to concentrate on clearing the V600V2 and V500V2+ backlog or something else) it is being kept under wraps for now.

| to each his own, but there are more appealing case projects around, such a device can fit in. especially those looking more genuine, not built around a standard pc keyboard and not carrying some pretencious label containing an "x" character.

What connectivity will we have for keyboard, Mouse & joysticks?
What kind of expansion slots and how many?
What storage options will we get?
What speed will the FPGA have?
Will we at last beat the hell out of the PPC cards?

| Given the existing product pipeline, it's likely more appropriate to ask for a ballpark idea of when this information will be disclosed. I'm sure this has been asked before as well, but it would be interesting to know whether a standalone Vampire card would be viable.

the living daylights out of blizz&CSPPC cards.
Also in genneral workbench performance my Vamp2 A600 beats the crap
out of my CSPPC cardwith 060/60 Mhz

Gunnar mentioned back in October that "the cards are done already" and include "all really important connector you need to have a usable system with keyboard, mouse, joystick and internet." Beyond that, I'm not sure that many other details have been disclosed.

Different Architectures are not easy to compare as you can not run the exact same program on them.
Several Users compared DOOM and Video playback speed.
According to their tests the Vampire run those application much faster.

The things that Gunnar confirms makes the wait even more worthwile.
Love to have that Phoenix board in my hands in ythe future :DOne thing i forgot to aske is the amount of memory and the formfactor of the standalone. Thanks again for the good work the Team delivers.

Will "your own" expansion ports be compatible with any existing GPIO headers, such as for example those of Raspberry Pi? EXTERNAL LINK I presume the "wifi modules" are ESP8266, that use hayes (AT modem) commands for operation. If the port is available as a serial port, I much rather use Bluetooth module like HC-06, MAX3232 for real DB9 RS232 serial port, or simply a direct null-modem connection to RPi Zero like I do with the MIST - will this be an option?
Will the board have RTC, or at least option to connect RTC to GPIO headers?
