Preparing for First Turn On of V2+ In An A500++

Hello All,
This is my first post so please be kind :)
I'm about to install my V2+ for the A500+ and the instruction sheet states to remove the ROM as well as the CPU.  My question is, is there already a ROM in the core and if not, how am I supposed to boot with no ROM present.  I will be wanting to install my Kickstart 3.1.4 to the Core rom.  I'm just a bit confused about first power up with no ROM chip in place.  Thank you.

Paul

Hi Paul,

The removal of the rom is indeed needed, otherwise the vampire wont fit.

There is already a rom in the vampire, if im not mistaking ready to run ApolloOS.
On my v500+ i run os 3.1.4 and i'm using VampireMap in my startup sequence to do this (https://wiki.apollo-accelerators.com/doku.php/system_tools:kickstarts).

Another way is to use the vampire bootloader

Thank you, Marco.  That helps.  I tried it and I get the screen asking for an IDE boot drive.  So far so good.

Nice ;)

The fastest method in my opinion to explore the Vampire is to prepare a cf (or sd) card with ApolloOs.
Takes a while with for example balenaEtcher to create on youre PC, but it should instantly run on youre A500 with vampire.

I'll certainly give it a try but I'd also like the option to have WB 3.1.4 since I've already paid for that recently.

I finally did as you advised and got the latest Apollo OS on a CF card. In general it works but some things are not working as expected.  For example the playback of some audio and video files don't seem to work and some demos don't work properly.  Plenty of other things do work, on a positive note.

If anyone knows how to make it dual booting with Amiga OS 3.1.4 or 3.2 Id be grateful.
Next I need to install the SD driver and I think SAGA if its not already included in the OS. Thank you.

Hi Paul,
I suggest that you join the Vampire Discord group. The guys there are very helpful.

Keep in mind that the team have been working on Apollo OS for only a relatively short time and its come a very long way.

I already have, but thanks.  I'll post the question there after trying those programs one more time. Apart from those issues I like it so far.
