Cannot Reset A600 With Vampire V2page  1 2

Hi all!

I have the problem that my A600+V2 freezes after a reset (command reboot or others). It's not the end of the world but it's annoying: I can only switch it on/off...

With many help (thanks Blackices77 and others!), I pinpointed the problem: it happens only when I use a P96 RTG screen mode: it doesn't happen when using a regular PAL screen mode.

The freeze doesn't (seem to) depend on the OS (tried "by hand" with nothing but the monitor and IPrefs and LoadWB and tried with the full CoffinOS r55), the core version (tried 2.10, 2.11, and 2.12), the SAGA Drivers (tried 0.14, 1.0, 1.4.2, 1.5.2, 1.7.1, 2.4.1, and 2.6.1)...

(Yes, that's a lot of combinations... and as many powering on/off my Amiga )

My card is an "old" Kipper2K V2...

With whom in the Apollo Team could I try to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance!
Tygre

Hi!

Some more experiments show that it's only when I reboot in a P96 RTG screen mode that my Amiga freezes: if I change screen mode to PAL *before* rebooting, it reboots fine...

What in P96 RTG screen modes could cause my Vampire to "freeze"?

Please help :-)

Unfortunately I don't have a solution to the problem but I am curious if this utility works for you from the RTG: EXTERNAL LINK

Hi Tygre,

Do you have any additional hardware addons for your A600 besides the Vampire?

This works for me! I can now reset my Amiga, yeah! :-)

So it could be that I have the same bug... maybe I should try to change the ROM in my Vampire?

Take care!

Besides the Vampire, I have a Arananet for Ethernet connection but nothing else. I also tried without the Arananet, but I had the same problem :-\

Take care!

Hi Sean and Simo!

Sorry for reviving this thread after such a long time :-)

Would you have any idea of why the SafeReset program works but not the keyboard combination? What could be the different between the software and the hardware reset?

Cheers!

I had a similar issue with my Amiga 600 running Coffin OS, I narrowed it down to the coffin.rom loaded in the startup-sequence.

Hi Peter!

And how did you solve it? Can we boot CoffinOS without its own (?) ROM?

Cheers!

I flashed vampire v2 to the latest core (2.15)
Edited startup-sequence by commented the coffin.rom

PS. Actually, I don't see where/how is the DEVS:Kickstarts/Coffin.rom or DEVS:Kickstarts/Coffin_standard.rom used... My Startup-Sequence starts with VampireMap DEVS:Kickstarts/Kick47400.A1200.

But WhichAmiga reports Kickstart 47.96, which is for 3.2... which I don't recall ever installing :-\ I can't even find this ROM (which I bought) on my A600...

Maybe I should use the Coffin.rom? Or a A600 3.1 ROM? How should I do that?

Thanks in advance!

PPS. Okay, that was my bad: I have given the wrong name to the Kickstart 3.2 file. I was indeed using C:VampireMap to use the Kickstart 3.2. Now I commented out this line in my Startup-Sequence and fall back to the original Kickstart 3.9 of my A600.

However, the "reset" problem is still there. It's slightly different though: with 3.2, the Amiga would reset but not reboot (stuck on the Vampire splash screen) while with 3.9, the Amiga just freezes still showing the current screen.

Hi all!

Could anyone help me with my "reset" problem? Maybe some hints at what I could look?

Thanks!

Have you confirmed the three keys are working? Does it reset ok without the vampire installed?

Hi!

AFAIK, the reset via keys worked before installing the Vampire. I could try removing the Vampire but I don't want to damage anything: is there a safe way to remove a Vampire? Currently, it's very strongly connected on the CPU.

Thanks in advance!

I would propose that you flash the Kick to the card.
What OS is running on your CF?
Do you have the same problems with Coffin?
Do you have any extra types of system patches installed?

Hi Gunnar!
So sorry for the long delay in my answering your post!
I finally took the time to remove my Vampire from my A600 and it resets "fine". Actually, it reset, but the reset take about 15 secs. I can't recall if that's normal?
I made a 30 secs. video: EXTERNAL LINK  What do you think?
Best!

Amiga OS versions with Harddrive support, will search and wait for the hardrive to respond. If you have no IDE drive connected ... then the AMIGA OS will wait many second for the drive to answer.... before giving up and showing the insert disk screen.

Maybe swapped or missing floppy cable?

Hi Gunnar and Henrich and thanks for your answers!
You're right of course: I tried with a "bare" A600: no FDD, no HDD, which explains the time...
So now we know that the reset works... but it doesn't with the Vampire card in... could you help me making it work? Do you want me to do some different tests to track down this issue?
Cheers!
