Booting Into EmuTOS With V4SA & RELEASE6 Core

Hello,

previously, the V4SA could be booted directly into EmuTOS by bridging a contact on the joystick port. Apparently, this feature has been removed from the RELEASE6 core. What are the alternatives? Can it be added again in a future release?

Regards
Christian

If not straight, can one boot to it from Coffin by starting some script? Or ApolloOS, AmiKit XE, OS 3.2?

I don't know. If yes, this leads to a new question: Can the V4SA boot any of these directly from the microSD card?

As you might know, EmuTOS supports the Vampire microSD card; therefore, my V4SA runs without any IDE device. I just use the microSD card. It would be annoying if I had to add a CF card (or similar) just to boot some of the SW you mention above only to be able to then boot EmuTOS. That would be clear disadvantage compared to previous core releases.

I guess no answer means that there is no solution, right? Could EmuTOS be integrated again into the _next_ core release, please?

Booting to Emutos was actually never removed.
The "Press FIRE for Atari" should always work.
Please note, that for the Atari fans we also have provided Emutos only cores - which always boot straight into Emutos without the need to press anything.

Please note that the IDE ports is much faster than SDcard.
We talk here about 5MB/sec versus 20MB/sec speed difference.
This means using a CF Card IDE device will give you a clear performance advantage.

Hm, like I mentioned in the first post in the thread, it does not work for me for RELEASE6. (With previous cores it did work, though.)

Even better! Thank you. Where can I find the RELEASE6 EmuTOS-only core?

Fire button looks not work anymore several people report this, I can't test by myself. Today only way I found to boot Emutos is to use VBL on compact flash, select at start Emutos and have system on SD (3-4 time slower than SD)

Do a version with Emutos need some effort for you and I think you have enough work like this! So I think we could find another simple solution to be able use last update when available without need you to work. I think idea is simple : Have a minimal AROS configuration disk to put on a compact flash (done already by Cotter thanks) put on it a special vampireflash able to flash Emutos, for now I'm locked with vampireflash as Flype said me there is a checksum control of rom to remove probably.
So if we are able to do this at each update we could flash rom with Emutos and use easily V4 for Atarian guy like us.

I really like how nice this Emutos runs.

I would like that we can offer an even better pre-installed Emutos.
Even maybe with more content, tools, games pre-installed?

It would be nice if you Atari experts can help us with this.
Maybe it would make sense to make an Atari section in our Discord channel for this too?
Christian would you like come to discord too.. Maybe we can make an Atari Dev channel?

A special ATARI/EmuTOS section on Discord would be great. Is it possible to boot into EmuTOS on V2, too?

Hello Gunnar

first we need a way to install Emutos as quickstart, something simple even for an Atari guy, if we have not this I don't think Atari user could be interest one day on V4, firestart on joypad was a great idea except for people without joypad like me, but looks not work anymore, but very funny is to replace quickstart by Emutos.

For application setup it is quite easy but don't expect have a lot of game working on V4 because most access to hardware and V4 is not an Atari computer. Mint (multitask) application work far better than most application that work only on single tos, for play game probably we should port some Atari emulator using V4 video ST mode compatible to not be too slow probably some game could work like this.

Discord channel why not, but personaly I prefer this forum because answer are not lost and it is more readable. There is not a lot of Atari Fan on vampire product.

Basic Emutos Amiga for vampire should work on V2 (fro github EMUTOS master); only black and white and display blinking. My special version work only with Saga with DIGITAL-VIDEO output, so I think only on V4

Sorry for not replying to you for a long time. Too many simultaneous projects.

I'm not a big fan of Discord, but I still might join your channel because I'm really interested in RELEASE6 core that can boot directly into EmuTOS.
