Just flashed Core 6 to my V4 SA, so far working great with Coffin OS R58.  Getting Apollo OS R6 ready :)  UPDATE: Apollo OS R6 was getting read errors, tried a diffrent CF card and it's working great!

Hi,

I have a V4 SA with core 6 and coffin r58 but having problems.
I am running demos with WHDload in iGame but after trying one after an other they crash after about 30sec-1min.
For example, after boot the first demo works fine but the second or third one exits after a few seconds without reporting an error.
Is anyone else having this problem ?
I have tried all the WHDload prefs and made the change in HDtoolbox to MaxTransfer 0x0001FE00 as suggested by someone.
But my demos keep crashing :(
I also tryed putting my registration keys I have as purchased a few years ago.
Can someone please help ?

Thanks

Try to turn Super-Scalar off and compare the results.

Can you please tell me how to do that in coffin r58 ?

I believe its a problem with NOAUTOVEC setting.
By turning this on and off it works but I have to keep changing it.
For example first demo I try with this set works and then if I change it again the second demo will work.
There is a NOAUTOVEC bug in r58.

You can change this by commenting/uncommenting the NoAutoVec option in the WHDLoad Prefs.

Thats right, but I have to keep changing it.
I also tried adding NOAUTOVEC in icon information.
One demo works with it on and one works with it off.
It's weird.

In other ways: TURTLE MODE should use superscalar off

If it does not exist in menus, try VControl SUPERSCALAR

  SS=SUPERSCALAR/N Change the SuperScalar mode. 0=Off, 1=On

  SYNOPSIS :

This command enables or disables the Apollo Core SuperScalar mode (Default is Enabled).

SuperScalar is a processor feature which allows to execute 2 instructions per fetch, through a 2nd pipe.

When enabled, the processor works faster, whenever applicable, and even more with programs compiled to take advantage of it (e.g. when compiled for MC68060).

  INPUT :

SUPERSCALAR=0 : Disable the processor SuperScalar mode (1 pipe mode).
SUPERSCALAR=1 : Enable the processor SuperScalar mode (2 pipes mode).
  OUTPUT :

  Returns OK ($RC = 0) if successful.
  Returns WARN ($RC = 5) if failed.
  NOTE :

This setting is NOT reset to 0 after a reboot.

Unfortunately, I have had a bit of a disaster after upgrading to Core 6.

I'm not sure it's the upgrade that's at fault, but the fact is that it isn't booting. The red power light goes on inside the case when I plug in the adapter, but the LEDs on the outside of the case don't come on.

This didn't happen immediately, however. What happened was - I flashed the Vampire with the Release 6 update exe file on the download page. It flashed the FPGA no problem at all. I then reset the machine and booted up Cannon Fodder. I played that a bit and then saved. This crashed the program. I reset the machine, and it came up with the message saying that there was no OS installed. I reset again, and then ... nothing. Totally blank screen. And it's been nothing ever since, apart from the power light going on inside.

I am guessing that somehow the machine has got bricked and I will have to use a USB Blaster to resurrect it. Odd that it didn't happen straight away after the update though.

Try diffrent CF card, this happened to me and when I used diffrent CF card it worked.  Also, try to re-flash just in case.

Everything would work if NOAUTOVEC stayed set.

Please try a few demos on coffin r58 and see what I mean.

I have just tried coffin r57 and it has the same bug.
NOAUTOVEC wont stay set even when whdload.prefs say it is.
Semicolon removed from line.

Apollo OS 6 works and doesn't have this problem.

Yes, I'm using WHDload 18.6

Thanks Carlos. I have two CF cards with OS images on them, and neither worked. I have since written a new CF card with R6 on it and it also doesn't work.

The problem is that the system doesn't even attempt to boot from the CF card. Neither of the two lights on the side of the box go on.

Hopefully I can save the day with the USB Blaster, which is on its way. If not ... well this has been an interesting learning experience ...

USB blaster will restore things to order better then Felix Steiners counter-attack :) If latest core for some reason does not work, use previous JIC and wait for some more mature ...

Some stuff stopped working after upgrading to Core 6 and installing ApolloOS R6.

It froze during setup when I got to the Locale settings. And after a reboot when starting the Locale application it always freezes. There is another program which causes a freeze on startup, but I forgot which one it was. Maybe AmIRC?

Loving your optimism, Vojin ...! Hopefully you're right. I will just have to make sure I plug the cable in the right way round ...
