Vampire - Software Applications That Benefit

Hey folks - with the cleanup of posts here, please let me know if this is not relevant enough..

I wanted to document practical software applications of the Vampire accelerator on the Amiga other than the obvious giant hardware improvements (DIGITAL-VIDEO, Fast storage, 128MB+ RAM, etc):

Applications:
- Web Browsing (Reasonable speed for daily use)
- Mac emulation -- 68030 or faster requiring games/apps work well
- Software compression speed significantly improved (i.e. LHA)*
- MP3s now possible without additional hardware
- Advanced text editors are much faster
- Amiga MAME (significant # of games running at full speed?)
- Compatibility:  No/less workarounds needed for different processors due to all instructions being present on Apollo core

Games:
- Frontier Elite 2 (high fps, can run max quality)
- SCUMMVM Games all playable
- Alien Breed 3D/Alien Breed II 3D (very playable)
- Quake (now playable)
- 68040/68060 "required" games - https://www.google.com/#q=site:hol.abime.net+060

Other:
- Modern demo compos (1996-today) requiring 68060 all run great

Hi John,

I think statements like "Advanced text editors are much faster" aren't really of that much use. It's kind of obvious, isn't it?

However, a more extensive and detailed list added to the existing Vampire Wiki wouldn't be a bad idea.

And btw, Quake needs FPU which isn't in "enabled" in the current version of the core yet ;-)

Not quite true.
Because of apollo core, new workarounds have been needed. Noticed all the software showing up on Aminet lately specifically targeting LC040/LC060?

Most of them relying on FPU.

Provided that they use RTG and do not rely on AGA, and that they don't require FPU. Which shorts the list quite a lot I would think.
