Hi guys

I've had my V4 for a week or so. I'm using the OS it shipped with. So far so good. I've only started returning to Amiga since the late 90s so please bare with me.

  1. I'm noticing some pops and cracks from the sound output when playing the included mod files (Hippo and Dopus5 player) - this doesn't appear to be related to the samples themselves, it's more like when one of the audio channels become activated. Since it seems to settle down and go away once the song has started playing for a while?

I noticed someone mentioning this on YT and they said it was only related to their capture device. I'm connected to a Portta HDM1 splitter which extracts the audio and this goes to a set of Bose desktop speakers via a 3.5 phone jack. I have other machines like an Ultimate64 going through this which is fine. Any ideas?

  2. I'm using a 5:4 LCD monitor (Dell) with a HDM1 input and I'd like to use its highest native resolution which is 1280x1024, what do I do to get this working? Picasso?

  Thanks
  Chris

Hi Chris,

Congratulations and welcome to the club! 😉

Regarding your second question - the most recent cores for the V4SA have been locked down to 16:9 only (960x540 is used for all resolutions). This makes resolution switching faster but it is bad news for us non 16:9-users. With core 7383 I ran WB in shiny 1280x800 on my 16:10 monitor. I also have a 4:3 monitor. None of my monitors are perfect now. I hope there will be changes to this in future cores. I do think the V4SA is an excellent little piece of hardware!

Good luck with your new Amiga!

Here is an example of the pop I'm hearing when playing mods

I'll try do a screen capture myself.

Hey Marten,

That "locked down" is for the AGA/SAGA resolutions only? You can still output RTG resolutions in Workbench right?

16:9 is the most common, but 5:4 and even 4:3 monitors with HDM1 are still around and they provide the closest experience to the original hardware. It would be nice to have the ability to support them.

Unfortunately no. 960x540 is used for all output. Early startup, ocs/aga games, rtg games, rtg workbench - Everything is in 960x540 now.

I agree. 99% of Amiga software is not wide screen. I bougth a 4:3 monitor because I don’t like black borders. We will have to wait and see, and keep our fingers crossed that freedoom of resolution switching will be brougth back ;-)
