A600 V2 Vampire - No New Screenmodes Shown

Hi,

I successfully updated the Core and installed P96 and SAGA.  I ran the VControl command to confirm it worked.  During the P96 installation it said I should select uaefgx as the graphic card when using a Vampire.  I now have a uaegfx and a VampireGFX file in DEV/Monitors.  However, when I open ScreenModes I don't see any new options.  I tried to launch the P96 Application and it just says No ScreenModes Found.  The only 2 things I found odd during the install, is that the SAGA install ended with a Message that says SAGA can now be found in RAM drive.  Which is odd as that would be lost on restart.  There  is a Saga icon in my Work Folder.  The P96 installation finished with a screen that said, you now need to just install drivers.  But there was a proceed button, I pressed and it took about half a second and said Install complete.  I just don't get it...
I'm on Workbench 3.9
DIGITAL-VIDEO doesn't show anything, so I'm on Scart Still but guessing once I can see the ScreenModes and can select one and DIGITAL-VIDEO will come up.

Thanks Ady.

When you boot to Early-Startup CLI, can you see batlogo from hdmi?

Hi Simo,

Thank you for replying, much appreciated.

I did note that on 2.0 Gold I was seeing the logo on RGB but didn't try on DIGITAL-VIDEO as I was going to update to 2.12 first.

On 2.12, the Vampire worked (speed, ram etc) but there wasn't a logo anymore when connected via RGB.

Today I have connected DIGITAL-VIDEO and RGB at the same time and booted.  I can the small bat logo on the right of the screen.  Then patch of red dots in the bottom right corner.  A black screen, then the logo appeared again.  Now the screen remains black and the display is holding a signal in 640x480 at 60HZ (so it's not defaulting to No Signal etc) but the screen is still black.

Best, Ady

Hi Have also just tried a larger modern DIGITAL-VIDEO display with the same results, other than the bat logo was dead centre vs. my older display where it was slightly offset to the right.

To confirm the SAGA Driver is 2.4.1 and the P96 driver is V2.

Some progress.  Have been looking at ToolTypes and the PVS Picasso file referenced a path to Picasso96Settings in DEVS.  Took a look, there wasn't one.  Opened the LHA on Aminet and they are there.  Reinstalled P96 but with update and selected MonitorModes too.  PicassoModePrefs now shows a bunch of modes.  Nothing new in ScreenModes but progress.

First step is find a display which shows batlogo normally from the hdmi when you boot to the Early-Startup CLI.

Next step would be install WB 3.1 + MUI + Picasso96 software + SAGA drivers and boot to WB with a RGB output. Then open Picasso96mode program and press a test button for the 640x480x8 screenmode. It should show up just like a batlogo from hdmi.

Thanks Simo,

Just Done that and in 640x480 Test, I get 4 circles in each corner of the screen and one big circle in the middle on DIGITAL-VIDEO with the 8 colours shown in blocks and 640 x 480 x 8 written in the middle of the screen. The whole image is very slightly off centre to the right... but it's an image via DIGITAL-VIDEO!  Just need to figure out how to get Workbench showing that way now - I guess I take a risk and press Save

Then open SYS:Prefs/Screenmode and select 640x480 8bit screenmode. Press a test button and if it shows OK, you can save it. Now you should have a WB in RTG and next time your Amiga will boot directly to the RTG.

Thanks.  That's where I'm unsure.  There is no 640x480 under PAL or NTSC in ScreenModes, the closest is PAL Hi Res 640 x 256.  I could modify it manually to 480 but just wanted to check that's the correct thing to do?

I've got the new screen modes going.  Not sure how but I put everything out of storage in Monitors (there was nothing Vampire specific but now the Vamp modes are showing, so I'll do as you've said).

You should install from scratch WB 3.1 + MUI + Picasso96 software + SAGA drivers into empty CF card.

After that you should have:
DEVS:Monitors/vampiregfx
DEVS:Monitors/vampiregfx.info
DEVS:Picasso96Settings
LIBS:Picasso96/vampiregfx.card

Hi Simo,

You've been awesome man.  I now have my portable 2K 15" LED showing my Amiga in 800 x 600 32Bit It looks mind blowing !

The final issue I seem to have.  Is that when I set the screenmode and save and set 800 x 600 in Picasso Tools and bind settings to Vampire, Save and reboot.  It reboots in ECS and I have to go to screenmode on my old display and click USE before it returns to how I saved it and shows on my LED display.

As opposed to using the saved settings and defaulting to the LED on boot up.

Best, Ady.

I think I've narrowed it down to an issue when Workbench has finished booting, it says it's trying to reset windows but it can't and I have to click cancel.  If I don't and try to use the new mode, it says the same thing.  If I close/abort it, I can then force into the new mode.  So I will focus on why that error is showing in the first place.

It's a UAE SCSI.device error that's stopping it. I'll trouble-shoot that independantly.

Nailed it, it was the Emergency Boot CD driver in DEVS:Dos Drivers, moved it to Storage and the system boots and works flawlessly.

Thank you very much for all your help !!

Here is a tutorial if you like to use WinUAE to setup your CF-card with AmigaOS 3.9. The video is a bit old (e.g. video driver was saga.card instead of current vampiregfx.card) but the installation principle is still a same...
