Yesterday we had a stellar guest on our online meeting: Gunnar 'BigGun' Von Bohen.
This is the raw recorded session of the meeting.
Audio is not perfect and the italian speakers were absolutely awful (me and Ozzyboshi), but I think this video is an honest and insightful voyage into Vampire and Apollo Core development, an insight on past, present and future of the Vampire project.
A huge 'Thank You' to Gunnar. Having you on our little meeting was an honor and a testament to your dedication for the Amiga community. Hope you really enjoyed the meeting as we did.
It's a long video, but sit down and watch it nonethless if you dare to have a look on Gunnar's powerful and sincere vision to reviving the Amiga..

Thanks for posting the video on YouTube. Interesting to hear Gunnar talk about working with an FPGA and his ideas for the future.

Great interview and much more improtant the full story behind. Now many thinks becomes clear and are making sense finally.

It is great to see that the love towards amiga and what makes this machine special is the driving force for such a long trip making amiga become alive again.

It can only be a wish that this road will be followed and that all is kept on private base in some hands to keep track, keep and the focus.

Many thanks for the great content in the video given and best wishes to the whole Apollo Team keeping the Amiga Spirit alive !

Chris

Nice interview but hard to follow due to the sound quality.
I’m waiting for the new Amiga Hardware Reference Manual.
We can see here that Jeri has the docs :)

Ah Jeri, I fell in love with her fingers and voice when I saw first video Long time a go, She was cooking transistors at her home.
Sadly she is not anymore sending so much these nice educating videos.
Have somebody asked do she have any interest of contribute?

Last night we had another chance to talk with Gunnar on our monthly CAUG italian meeting.

This is the link to the video:

It's a 3 hours long chat, so it's not a YouTube-easy video to watch, but we had a big primetime reveal of new Apollo-Team hardware, so I suppose it can be very interesting for Amiga (and Vampire) fans.

Watching the video I think everyone can better understand and appreciate Gunnar's dedication to his plan to 'revive the Amiga'.

To BigGun: We really enjoyed having you as a guest in our 'family-sized' meeting.
Hope we'll have you again!.

Let’s hope that the Raptor will interest demo sceners, it should if it behave like an 060 because sceners seems to be interested just by that CPU.

If it has that 68080 performance and the killer memory bandwidth of it's predecessors then the DEMO scene should light up...all those texels rely on fast memory! \m/

I possess two Amiga 1260 accelerators (3.1 ROMS) and personally did serveral demos on ECS but also on AGA (with focus on 68030 no FPU). So I would consider myself as demo scener. Concerning demo scene the tendency goes to pure Amiga 500, AGA 1260 has is in my opinion the 2nd biggest base.

Although I have applied for Vampire 1200 V2, I am more intrigued by the Raptor. Once you can register for it I will do.

Since it is my first comment on this board, I would like to express my gratitude to the Apollo/Vampire-Team and Amiga community in general.

Congrats on the new model. If I understood it well, it will be 060-mmx with fast ram, nothing else (using your Amigas chipset) like most of accelerators.

I think you mean 080-mmx instead.

If I understood it well, its more 060 FPGA replica, but if I get it right, with AMMX.

Of course we use a real 68080.
And this makes sense as the 080 is much better.

Why is the 68080 much better than the 060?

Some reasons:
a) The 060 misses many instructions of the 68040 and even instructions of the 68000. The 060 will simply crash on many Amiga software without the aid from software libraries.
This means coders need on the 060 avoid many good instructions.

b) The 060 is severely limited by its ICache Bandwidth.
The ICache can only deliver 4 Byte per cycle.
The 68080 Icache in contrast can deliver 16Byter per cycle. This is 4 times better!
The weak Icache of the 060 limits its performance and severely hinders coders  in using the full potential of the 68K instruction set.

c) The 060 has no support for memory streaming.
The 68080 has a much improved memory interface and comes with build in high speed memory controller. This is the reason the 68080 has 10 times better memory performance than the 68060.

It was a pleasure having you, your speech was very interesting as always and your partecipation to our meetings is very much appreciated and helps us to keep the small italian vampire community active.
Meet in person? Why not? When all this virus madness will come to an end maybe...
Actually I am very interested to attend some amiga events (like it was Amiga34 for example), maybe I can manage to persuade the vampire italia community to have a little trip.Since amiga35 was canceled, maybe amiga36... or 37? Who knows?
