V1200V2 Workbench: No Icons, No Menus

Hey,

i finally just got my V1200V2 and plugged it into my A1200 wirth Workbench 3.1.4. I commented out the CPU CHECKINSTALL in startup-sequence and then the System boots. Well atleast i can see a Workbench Screen and a Mouse-Pointer but that's it. No Icons, no Title Text. Just the Title Bar and a Mouse-Pointer.

It doesn't matter if i boot my own WB or if i boot a fresh one directly from Disk.

When i boot the "3.1.4 Install" Disk from Floppy, everything works just fine. I can click everything and the System  behaves normally.

  Update:
I don't know what i did but now it is running. Time to open a Bottle of Beer :-)

Update of the Update:
Sometimes i still get a blank Workbench Screen after a Reboot.

Unfortunally the Vampire 1200V2 is highly instable on my 1200.

My Setup:
A1200 with Kick 3.1.4 and OS 3.1.4 (Frash install)
Big Power Supply (Original)
Previously used with a ACA1233n without any Problems.

Problems i encounter with the 1200V2:
- System turns on but Screen turns black
- System turns on but gives me a Guru Meditation
- System boots up but shows no Icons on Desktop
- System boots up and everything is fine
- System doesnt find the CF Card (sometimes)
- System boots fine from FDD everytime and THEN i see the HDD too

It takes me about 10 times until i can get it up. I cannot describe the mood i am in right now.

If you need support then the best place it to join the V1200 slack support channel.
Many questions can be solved there quickly.

What IDE setup do you use?
What drive is where connected?
Which V1200 Core do you use?

Sorry, i am not familiar with Slack at all :-(

What IDE setup do you use?
  - CF Card attached to an Adapter attached to the V1200V2

  What drive is where connected?
  - No external Drives at all

Which V1200 Core do you use?
  - I have no clue because i cant get it to run
The Card just arrived a few hours ago.

Update:
Managed it to flash another Core 2.12RC3 (The one who supports PCMCIA and Onboard IDE). After i have put the CF Adapter back to the Amigas IDE Port, OS 3.1.4 was booting flawlessly and also the Apollo works. Due to the fact that i need PCMCIA for my WiFi Card, this core is okay for me.

Question: Is there any better core that still supports PCMCIA or is the one i am using the only one?

I have several problems (compatibility and crashes) with my v1200. What is the name of the slack channel? How do I get authorization to the channel? Please, be clear about the slack channel.

Hi Gerrit,

I would reccommend getting the latest V1200 core here:

https://wiki.apollo-accelerators.com/doku.php/vampire:accelerator_core_updates

I believe its newer than the 2.12RC3 that you are using.

When you initially installed OS 3.1.4 on your A1200 prior to installing the V1200, what Kickstart ROM was installed on your motherboard?

Hi, thanks for your time.

Due to the fact that i really need the PCMCIA i just want to ask if the core you mentioned supports it or if it deactivates PCMCIA again?

I downgraded to the core i am using right now, because it supports PCMCIA and the local IDE on the Amigas MoBo. If i attach my CF Card to the Vampire it gets very instable and crashes most of the time.

I got Kickstart 3.1.4

The latest core from the website is version 7389B and supports PCMCIA and motherboard IDE. The V1200's onboard IDE is currently deactivated with this version, but will be working again in a future release.

The V1200 uses it's own Kickstart which is based on 3.1. If you haven't already done so I would recommend patching the soft version of Kickstart 3.1.4 into the V1200's own Kickstart using "VampireFlash". You will need to repeat this procedure whenever you update the core.

This will eliminate problems of booting into Workbench that generally happens when you have originally installed the OS on a system that has KS 3.1.4 but then move the installation to a system that has KS 3.1. Normally when you install the OS on a system with KS 3.1 the installation automatically detects this and asks you to insert the Modules disk so it can copy files over to allow it to boot on a KS 3.1 system. This doesn't happen if it detects 3.1.4 hardware ROMS.

Sean: Thanks a lot. I will try the Core and report here if it works for me :-)

@Update:
Flashed the latest Core. Onboard IDE and PCMCIA working. Thanks a lot for all your help. So i guess i got the card with a faulty core where V1200 IDE still was enabled and the rest disabled :-)

All good mate. Glad everything worked out in the end. :)

Actually it wasn't faulty fortunately. It was shipped with GOLD 2.11 which deactivates PCMCIA and motherboard IDE and uses the V1200 IDE instead.
