Are A600 Vampires Shipped By Majsta X13 Capable?

Hi guys,

I got my A600 V2 from Majsta at the end of August. This was an A600 V2 from the pre-orderlist on AmiBay.
Are these A600 Vampire 2s X13 capable?
What must be done to make it X13 capable?

All the best,

Brian Robotham

Hi,

to be or not to be, that is the question. Chances are they aren't but they may be. Once user x13 cores are released you will be able to try. I check the ones i build to verify their capabilities.

Thanks Brian,

I'll test it when X13 cores will be available :)

All the best,

You need to check the number on the Cyclone III. The normally used have a 8N on the last two digits. The fast ones for the black edition have 6N printed on them.

Chances are not good with a 8N, that the x13 core will run stable or at all on it (8N ist the slowest of all Cyclone III you can buy, 6N is the fastest).

Well, kipper stated something in an earlier discussion wich confirms my own experiences with that chip:

This is not entirely correct.  The 6N has been tested by Altera and is deemed to run at a better speed than minimum spec.  The 8N is untested by Altera and is marked 8N accordingly. There are 6N chips that will not do better than x13 so it is hit and miss. I bought 10 x 6N chips, only 2 of them performed better than the 8N variant. I bought a batch of 40 x 8Ns and over half of those work at x14.

The user tool in the future  will work on all chips and is hit and miss as to whether your chip will work at a given speed. If your chip crashes at a given speed it will default to a lower speed.  For reference i have 2 x 8Ns that work reliably at x15 so don't be surprised if they would go faster than your 6N if you have one.

To ensure there is a guideline, the "Black Edition" is guaranteed at minimum x13, and the standard guaranteed at x11

Thanks guys concerning the Cyclone III 8N(X11) and 6N(X13) iterations.
I wonder how I could test the maximum speed of My Cyclone III 8N? Like Kipper2K said, I could try the X13 core when it's available. But what if want to test higher speeds, how would I proceed?
