V1200 and PCMCIA File Download Problempage  1 2

Hello,

I have strange problem. When downloading any file from Internet A1200 can hang at any time. Sometimes it can download 2 MB and hangs, sometimes 25 MB... Then after reboot disk is validating. If I download file to RAM disk - problem is same.

However if I change Vampire 1200 to ACA1233n or Blizzard 1260 - there is no such issue.

  Some details about hardware:
  A1200 is recapped
Equiped with Vampire 1200 running latest core with working PCMCIA and mobo IDE
  Kick and OS is 3.1.4
Running on 16 GB SanDisk card (tried multiple cards already)
Files system is SFS with MAxTransfer 0xFE00
PCMCIA WIFI card running over prism2 and MiamiDX
  IBrowse 2.5.2 with SSL 4.4

Hope anyone can give some ideas...

  Thank you

Hello Edwin,

Do you have the same problems with Coffin?

Gunnar, I did not try Coffin, however my OS 3.1.4 is fresh installation, with just Vampire tools, MUI, IBrowse, SSL, MiamiDX and prism2 with WirelessManager. I do not have any MMU libs or any other things which can conflict.

Do you recommend to try Coffin?

Gunnar, same is with Coffin.

Tried MiamiDX. Tried Roadshow. Also tried to download using AWeb. No luck.

Tried another rev 1D4 motherboard. Another PSU. No luck.

Tried with 3.1 ROM, 3.1.4 ROM. Mapped into V1200, then flashed into V1200. No luck.

PCMCIA WIFI model is XI-300, started to think that it could be WiFi card? However it works fine with ACA1233n and B1260.

What I have noticed, that it hangs when speed goes above 200kb/s...

Could it be something with PCMCIA implementation in V1200 core?

I was having a similar issue with my PCMCIA ethernet card, but ended up being an issue with this PCMCIA L-Adapter, my theory it introduced either noise or caused a timing issue.

I do not have L-adapter, it is connected directly to PCMCIA slot.

My both motherboards are rev. 1D4 and they do not have timing issues (timing fix applied).

The most strange thing is that is only happens with V1200 card, no issues with other accelerators.

Hi everyone, I just joined the Apollo Forum!
I would like to say my opinion regarding the problem encountered
by Mr. Edvin AWalter about the V1200 and the Pcmcia door.
I believe the problems are due to the use of the Sfs filesystem, as
I too had partitioned my system with that filesystem.
I understood this after countless attempts at partitioning and formatting, finally I solved it using the pfs3aio filesystem.
I believe in my very modest opinion that sfs is not very compatible with the V1200.
After all, Coffin uses pfs3aio.
You could try this solution, perhaps using it as a test
another hard drive or cf card.
Regards!!!

Hello,

Thank you for your idea, but I tried to use Coffin - issue is the same.

Also same happens if I download file to RAM:, that means filesystem or CF card should not be and issue...

Hello.
I'm sorry you haven't solved the problem yet,
my system is 3.9 with the two boing bags installed.
The problem I encountered using the sfs was once the operating system was installed, unformatted partitions appeared to me.
That is to say, if I created partitions for example: AmigaOS (DH0) Work (DH1) etc. and made the installation of the OS, at the reboot the unformatted volume name (DH0) would appear beyond AmigaOS!
If I tried to format DH0 I simply deleted the AmigaOS volume! Since having never dealt with OS 3.1.4, could this be the problem? Obviously mine is only a hypothesis! Furthermore, even after installing the pfs3aio, I encountered startup problems, which were easily resolved by entering the following line in the setpatch command: Setpatch NoRomUpdate Quiet.

Hello,

I never had any issues with SFS in 3.1.4 in my 4 Amiga computers. All other file operations are working fine except file download. In addition to that I doubt this is caused due to OS or filesystem type. Even if file is being downloaded to RAM disk problem is the same and it does not happen with other accelerators, but only V1200.

Hello.
So if you tried to find all the solutions to solve
this bad problem, and unfortunately you have not solved, remains only one probable explanation: Your V1200 must have some flaws in managing the ram memory. But I hope I'm wrong.
Try to check the ram memory of your card, or the whole computer, the tools are there. If the problem is not software, only one thing remains!
Greetings.

Hello

I have exactly the same issue on my A2000 and I'm curious about the solution. Sometimes my Amiga hangs when I'm sending files to it by network. It could be few or more files but after some time it freezes. I will check the memory but i doubt it is it, because all other works fine and stable. Besides I still have problems displaying RTG on the new 2.12 core. Looks like the problem is on the SAGA drivers side but I could be wrong.

My A2000 with core 2.12 and latest SAGA drivers works fine. I'm using a X-Surf 100.
I believe your problem might be something else entirely than the OPs.

I've also never had problems with SFS.
On the contrary. The Subversion client (svn) doesn't work on pfs3. Took me a long time to figure this out.

I'm still trying to get my wireless card working on the A1200 with Vampire. So I can test this as well.
For some reason Roadshow in Coffin OS won't connect to my WIFI.

Yes, you could be right, but we have totally different configs with Edvin and the same issue. Only similar thing is Vampire card. Don't get me wrong. I'm really happy to have a vampire. I'm just curious if our problems are caused by the same reason.

Running the Stock A1200 PSU or something a bit beefier? The Stock PSU even when not accounting for 25+ years of aging could basically only handle the stock amount of current draw. Accounting for the vampire and perhaps a few other addons,, perhaps when downloading a very slight current dip is causing an interruption in connection? More of a wild theory than anything.

I'm not using stock PSU. My PSU is new and I tried two of them. Overclocked B1260 rev6 works fine with my PSU, so I think this is not the cause :(... Thank you for ideas

Do you get the same effect when you turn off any security on the Wireless access point
