Apollo Vamp 500 V2+ With Electronica4u USB KB

Morning fellow Vamps,

I have a query to see if anyone else is having the same issue as me.

I have an Amiga 500 (Rev 6a) with a lovely Apollo Vampire v2+ (running 2.11 core) installed.

I've just purchased and installed an internal USB Keyboard adapter from 'electronica4u' [see weblink at the end of post] , this sits on top of the (U7) CIA chip 8250-A (with the CIA Chip sitting on top of this board) - allowing you to install a USB dongle for a use with a wireless keyboard.

Now all connected devices work when powering up - the original Amiga keyboard, PC wireless keyboard (Logitech K360) and a Amiga mouse (in the serial port), all work fine.

The issue I am having (which I wasn't even aware was there), is then when I power up with this new adapter installed I am greeted with a black and white screen saying 'EmuTOS' which I cannot do anything with - this then boots into an ATARI-ST desktop where I can move the mouse around etc. and then using either the Amiga KB or the wireless KB I can soft-reset, which takes me back to the 'EmuTOS' boot screen....

I am fairly stumped as to why this is happening, and to how I can avoid this screen booting up?

I have read on the forum, that if you hold down the left mouse bottom on power-up (without this new adapter installed), this 'EmuTOS' is a feature and will boot up...but I am not holding any button or key-press down.  I've also remove the wireless keyboard dongle and Amiga mouse to see if it's conflicting and still get the same response.

So I am seeing if anyone else has purchased this mod and has had a similar issue or work-around...or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes Chris.

The Rom you have is a multi-kick rom.
It contains both AMIGA and ATARI.

The ATARI ROM is loaded when during POWER-ON the Firebutton on the Joystick is pressed.

Do you have a Joystick attached?
Does the Joystick maybe has Auto-fire active?

Hey Gunnar,

I've removed all peripherals (no joystick in any coms used), removed the mouse and also the USB dongle from the internal USB port and it still boots up into the 'EmuTOS' screen.

The Vamp only stops booting into 'EmuTOS' when I remove the USB adapter and place the CIA chip back into U7?

What you say sounds like this adapter has like a "bug" that it sends some false "fire" signals on BOOT.

Which we notice - but which got unnoticed so far.

I think we can help you by making a core version which is 100% AMIGA OS and not allows this selection.

That would be very much appreciated if you could do that at your earliest opportunity....many thanks Gunnar for the help! :D

Evening Gunnar/Team Apollo,

I don't suppose you have any update to the proposed 100% AMIGA OS core version you mentioned last Thursday? :D

Do you have your HDD or IDE2SD connected to V2+? I think I've experienced something similar when my adapter was plugged in the other way than it should have been.

Hey Adam,

Many thanks for the assist - you're a legend sir!

You're advice worked perfectly, I swapped my IDE2SD cable around on the Vampire Board and it's now on perfectly (even though I thought I had the cable plugged in correctly because it booted up no probs prior to using the wireless KB adapter)...thank you tenfold!

With help from Adam - I can happily confirm that the Electronica4u Internal CIA-USB Wireless KB works excellently with a Logitech K360 Wirless Keyboard as well as using a Electronica4u Tom+>Com Port using a Logitech M510 wireless mouse..

Happy days indeed, Cheers Chris :D
