The best way is to overhaul an old A500 4.5A PSU, but I think a  A1200 PSU is also enough for the V1200. The card has a significant less power consumption than the older turbocards.

I use nothing but Mean Well supplies, The RT-50B I know for sure fits in the original PSU enclosure. The RT-65B may also work, but haven't measured it out yet it is a tad bit longer, but I have some wiggle room with the RT-50B.

I think I have an 80W Meanwell in my brick PSU. The 50W types wasn't available when I bought mine. No problems at all (not counting an IDE cable that turned into smoke when I connected it the wrong way round, I doubt the weak old Amiga PSU could have done that).

Is this enough for v1200?

@Vito, Likely will work just fine.

I only went with Mean Well because they're cheap ~$20 USD and I like a bit of a project, so I didn't mind having a bit of wiring.

I agree that amigastore psu are a bit expensive.....

I replaced all the internals of my Amiga PSUs with meanwell boards, quick and easy .. I dont think of power supplies as something that needs to be preserved / recapped etc.. fire hazard .. replace the board and be safer and more efficient.

The are no "emotional" reasons for overhaul an existing Amiga PSU - the reason is that they are perfect for small Desktop Amigas and I would not buy the Meanwell PSU. We had some cases @a1k where it is suspected that the meanwell power supplies are responsible for the instabilities.

Better are the VLT EOS 3000 power supplies. They are in use since a few years and there were no problems so far. But they cost much more than the meanwell. I use the VLT for my A1200PPC and A1260. EXTERNAL LINK But for a Vampire Amiga is that power supply oversized. I would use a overhauled 4.5A Amiga power supply.

i think most small PSU's should be fine.

bear in mind that the amiga is primarily a 5volt machine.
i had an SFX PSU rated to 350watts go pop in my a4000. only on reading the spec did i see it was only rated to something like 40 or 50 watts on the 5volt rail - rather than the 180Watts the original PSU generated. i had to go to 550W uATX PSU to match the 5volt output of the original PSU.

having said that, my a500 psu is 2.5A on the 5 volt giving 12.5Watts, and 1 amp on the 12, for another 12 watts. 25 watts in total. i've probably got more powerful USB charger battery packs :D

i did have one issue running a PicoPSU in an A1200. it was only generating -0.3volts on the -12volt rail, leading to audio problems. so i sent them an email fully expecting to be ignored as some weird edge-case. But the PicoPSU guys were super helpful and very interested to hear about "non-PC" applications for their kit. i ended up getting it replaced for no charge.

but yeah, i suspect the vampire is super efficient compared to an 040. but you got me thinking about modern battery packs and if they'd run an amiga happily enough

I would really love to have a small PSU for my Amigas..
The original one is such a huge brick.

The A500 4.5A supplies are getting harder to find and not everyone  has the ability to or wants to pay to recap their PSU. As for Mean Well supplies causing instabilities I kind of doubt it was the end all issue, most likely a coincidental fix for another more inherent instability in the actual Amiga hardware.

That said there are some models you should avoid, as some have a minimum current draw requirements on some of the rails (12v/-12v), the Supplies I listed do not have this issue. It's all about research before hand.
