Will the on-board IDE of the V1200 disable the A1200 motherboard IDE connector or can they both be used together. Not a deal breaker but it would be nice to be able to use both if for example using a kipper2k CF adapter through a cut out above the PCMCIA slot.

  Depending on the test.

Please can you tell me what software you are using to test and get 12 MB/sec? Also which file system and media type?

Thanks

Sysinfo speed test with CF.

I agree with you that of course someone need to use the same measurement stick here for comparison.
I saw some AMIGA SCSI performance numbers done with some benchmarks which look "unrealistic" to say the least...

The IDE speed that the Vampire today reaches seems as good or better than the speed that AMIGA FastATA IDE cards offer, which are today sold for $150 per piece.

i wonder what numbers would that be? csppc/cs3 scsi controller allows for maximal 40mb/s, and usually you are pretty close to that range of performance with probably whatever you could use with that controller today (i have finally used a pata ssd behind an acard adapter), which i have had confirmed with various benchmarks at its time.

i think ist only right that a device operates at a rate that technical specs promise. one should not forget those scsi controllers are dma, in contrary to any ata/die contollers. also the cost of the accelerator equipped with this controller and the additional hardware like acard adapters have considerable costs.

the fastest die implementation on Amiga (as ist been advertized) fastata should provide 14/16 mb/s peak, which i dont remember to have confirmed and even if this might be possible under considerable cpu load i consider it unlikely for average Operation. this Kind of throughput over zorro3 bus is otherwise only to be seen with some hacky rtg Cards like merlin or cv64. it is by no means usual.

We all know how unrealistic some benchmarks are.
I have developed high end SAS controllers for IBM in a former live.. I know how stupid/false disk speed benchmarks can be.

I think for a _real_ comparison you need a real use case is always the best. Do something real with the data.
E.g. load real 100 MB from disk and let the CPU a CRC over it.
And then measure the time for this.

Wawa both DMA and PIO have each their own advantages.
There are use cases where PIO has many advantages.
For example if you actually want to process the data..
then PIO has the data already in CPU cache - and processing the data is much faster and with lot lower latency than with DMA!

Yes, 12MB/sec sounds good to me.  Perhaps I have miss-understood, is the 12MB/sec just on the V1200 card being developed or should I be able to get that kind of performance on my V500+?  Just checked and i'm getting 3,276,800 bytes/sec.

Thanks

For Both..
You can run both IDE in normal and fast mode.

Great, how do I do that then, is there a guide somewhere?

Thanks

will be usable also the A1200 onboard IDE ?

Thats a driver question.

IF we "overlay" = "replace" the IDE controller than the AMIGA OS will use the new faster controller out of the box.
If we put the new controller next to the old one, then we need to run the AMIGA OS IDE driver two times to use both.

Both would be possible.

It think it would be useful to have both. The Vampire 2 controller for fast OS and Application loading and the A1200 built-in controller for mass storage with legacy devices.

Hi! I'm new on the forum and I have a question about vampire 1200.
Is there any telling of how big the card will be? My A1200 is towerised in an old infinitiv II tower, which is a little low considering I have a Mediator in it. My accelerator, Blizzard 1240 sticks out though a hole in the top of the tower
Is the V1200 gonna be full size like the Blizzard 1240?

I guess it will be the same size or shorter ;o) But if you have already made a hole into the top cover, then you don't need to care anyway, right?

Actually that's not entirely true. I can't put the plastic top piece on the tower, so it kinda looks bad. It has bothered me for many years xD lol!

Actually almost since I got the tower

From a design perspective you can look at it from two views.
One one hand, it certainly doesn't *have* to be as big as a 1240. Weve seen the V600 v2.. Its tiny.
But the other way to see it is..
Ok the A1200 has a pretty big trapdoor. lets use the space to populate the card with a bunch of useful connectors.
If the other design philosophy is chosen you can also hope that the size is optimized to suit as many cases as possible. In this scenario there really is only 2. The original A1200 case and the Towerized version.
However, if you expect Majsa to adjust rhe design you should at least give some measurements for the maximum allowed "mediator-friwndly" length. ;-)

just curious if there's any updates on vampire 1200 - rough cost estimation (is it more like 500 pricing or more likely 2x as much?) and if this will be a 2017 product..  thanks :)

i think if there was any news on vampire 1200 they would have been communiacted, you dont need to demand status update every other day..
