On A1k.org there is Hardware Project of M. H. called "Garlic 68k CPU switch for the 68000 socket. I was really interested, if this CPU switch could work with my Vampire 500 V2+. With two 68000 Motorola CPU it worked, however the Vampire could never been shut down. The Vampire Always boots. Is it possible, that Gunnar or somebody of the Vampire Team could have a Closer look on this to achieve compatibility? What is the Benefit? Everybody could easily switch from the Vampire to the original CPU, Speed and 100% disk compatibility as KS1.3 would be in place… EXTERNAL LINK
Thanks in Advance! Chris

The vampire already has its own turtle mode to match 68000 speed ( I think)

Without even looking at that project I can conclude that is based on bus arbitration. Such thing is not supported on V500 and card or something else could die. If you have some problems with V500 compatibility can you explain more.I could try to recreate your problem and give more details.tnx

Thank you for your Reply. I will test the new core which game disks with kick 1.3 Rom does not work. So far it is SWIV and FATE GATES OF DAWN. Yes, one can use whdload, but it would be the ultimate solution, if one could use the maprom function with 100% disk compatibility. That's why I prefer the V500 V2+ meanwhile instead of the V1200. But do not worry, I am already saving my Money for this as well .-)

Thinking about this, it still might be a good option for 1.2/1.3KS apps/games that lack WHDLOAD slaves (i.e. "Instant Music" by Electronic Arts) .. and dont play well with fast CPUs, KS beyond 1.3 and only work with 512kb chip (no fast/no slow ram).

Technically this card can NOT work with the V2.
The technical reasons were known and explained before.

If you have problems running old games with new kickstart then
just load/map Kick 1.3 in the Vamp, and turn the fastmem off.

Tried that .. didnt work. I havent tried in a few core revisions, maybe I will give it another try.

What exactly did you try and did not work?
Boot Kick 1.3?
Turn off fastmem?

This all should work.

How do you start to old game?
Can you name an example?

I did mention it above but I will again..

  "Electronic Arts: Instant Music"

yea I tried the bootkick 1.3 and turned off fastmem.. didnt run..

  The game boots from floppy..

Its a pretty old Amiga title.. dating back to 1.1? 1.2 KS/WB..

If someone knows how to move this to a WHDLoad slave that would be good as an alternative.. I dont know how.. its a typical Amiga DOS disk (afaik)

Well, the following games crashed, when using kick1.3, turtle mode and original floppy disks:
1. SWIV
2. Fate - Gate of Dawn
3. Turrican
4. Turrican 2 (Turrican 3 works)
others not tried yet. Original Dungeon Master worked.

The A500 boots around 3-4 sec. then Guru Meditation (00000XXXX)...

That is similar to what I recall happening with "Electronic Arts: Instant Music" when booting from floppy using kick1.3/turtle (I will give it another go over the Christmas break)

Unfortunately still not solved...
1. Please try Back2thefuture Part II
2. SWIV
3. BugBomber
4. Turrican
5. Fate Gates of Dawn

You can download ADFs and copy to disk. You will find out that those games do not work with turtle mode and kick1.3 or similar kicks. I believe the vampire can learn here, when fixing it...

and why do you not use whdload?

Why not WHDLoad? Because I like the original handling of disks either to Play directly with them or to use the original install process on HDD.

Without the disks, it's is like to take out a bit of the Soul of the Amiga 500/1200.

I am convinced, once the Vampire Team takes time to fix that, for much more USERS would the Vampire even more a instant buy, especially if you plan to go beyond the Amiga fan base of A1k.org, EAB or Amibay.

Do not Forget how many have their old disk and especially orginal disk on their Basement or attic :). And yes, alot still work!
As an example: How many People were Kind of dissappointed, that the ARMIGA Emulation console with the floppy disk was not able to read directly from disk to Play the game, but only make ADF's from (non-original disks).
