Just hoping... :)

Any support for the other variants of this joystick planned/added in upcoming/latest cores?

All the FIRE-Bird cores, the ICE-Drake Cores and the R8 Cores of the Standalone all support USB to CD32 translation.

  How are analog sticks handled?

'PONG - Anniversary'
states it will support it when that happens.
It also mention what you can expect when it does.

Am I right in thinking that when a controller is plugged into USB, the corresponding 9-pin socket is deactivated/overridden?

I'm just wondering what the options are for mouse/joystick switching. It would be good to have two-player joypad games available without having to unplug the mouse every time.

Partly yes.
Lets examen ONLY port0

My v4sa:

usb-mouse in port0 + db9 mouse in port 0:
move the one or the other: both move the mouse
moving them together: usb-mouse has control.
but:
all mouseclick get always noted.

same with usb-mouse + db9 joystick in port 0:
move the mouse db9 reacts as mouse
move the joystick db9 reacts a joystick
also here: all mouseclicks & butons get always noted.

Now with the usb joypad in port 0
whatever is in the db9 (mous/joystick) MOVEMENT is ignored.
only joypad movement gets noted.
but:
all buttons or mouseclicks get always noted.

I think that is the most flexible way you can get.
Clearly there was clear thinking about that!

With 'PONG - Anniversary' (topic games)
i made use of that.
When the lemmings dicide to play ping-pong you can make use of four controller in the two ports. two for the lemmings and two for pong.

(I have most of the time a joystick & usb-mouse in port0, just as you stated)

Thanks Tommo, that's interesting info.

I think it works differently on the Icedrake, though. Controllers in the db9 ports don't respond to movement (only clicks) when something is plugged into the USB ports. And the mouse only works in port 1, not port 0. As per the original A1200 ports I guess.

I've got both the SNES and NES controller (I *think*) and the Speedlink joystick, but none of them work properly on my V4SA. The joypads respons to 'fire', but not the direction keys. The speedlink joystick doesn't respond to anything.

My advice: "Get the official Apollo Controller."
The controller is very good.
