V4 and HDMI 2 DVI

Hi.

I'm not sure. But for some reason I can't get the V4 connected to a LCD display that has no DIGITAL-VIDEO but DVI.
Tried on two LCDs that work with Vampire V2, but not with Vampire V4.
The displays say that they don't detect any signal.

What could be the reason for that?

  Manfred

Funny. The forum seems to exchange the word "h_d_m_i" with "DIGITAL-VIDEO".

Hallo Manfred,

Please note that V4 does send audio over Video-Out
DVI can not handle this.

Best is to connect a real TV with DIGITAL-VIDEO.

Yes. thanks. I use a H_D_M_I LCD now.
But I thought it might still work to just get video.

The audio is embedded in the data stream and DVI receivers choke when they come across this audio data since they were not designed to handle it.

I would check with another TV or LCD to see if you're actually booting properly and maybe it's set into a mode that your LCD can't handle.

Not sure I've ever seen a case where that actually happened.

Also You can get simple H.D.M.I. audio splitter to extract the audio from the H.D.M.I. output.

One option that works for me is a H.D.M.I. to VGA adapter. These can be found on *Bay for pennies (I've paid less than 5 EUR for mine). Many even feature analog audio out. The only prerequisite for the LCD in such a setup is that it needs to accept 50 Hz.

I have a Dell 2001FP which just shows a garbled image when there's audio data present in the signal on the DVI input. A splitter could be a good idea if it actually removes the audio from the stream.
But you are probably right that most displays won't care if there's audio present.
