Vampire 500 V2 Compatible With External Harddrives

Hello together,

today i got my new vampire for the Amiga 500.
Now I'm curious if the vampire is compatible with external hard drives that can be plugged into the left expansion slot of the A500.

What happens, if the external hard drive controler also has some RAM on it?

I would be very happy about an answer, because I don't dare to test my extensions with the vampire....for experimenting it was too expensive ;-)

Thank you very much in Advance

Regards from the Ruhrgebiet in Germany

Could someone of the moderators please add a question mark to the end of the thread title?

Thank you :-)

Only if you remove one of the theos from your name :)
Sorry, no answer just silliness.

Hallo Theo,

Generally speaking the Vamp can be compatible with such controllers, also with the extended memory on them.
But this needs be verified for each model, case by case.
I personally do not have such A500 controller.

One thing to note:
The Vampire Fast Memory reaches a speed of ~ 500 MB/sec..
The Fast memory on such controllers have only a speed of ~ 3.5 MB/sec.

Hello Gunnar,

thank you for the answer.
I testet my external Oktagon with 512 MB CF and 2 MB RAM.
It seems to work fine. I am very happy. It is a great possibility to transfer some new software to one of my other A500 :-)

@David Wright
done! ;-)
