i have made several videos , asked on various forums, even email Igor on this issue. besides trying Coffin i am stumped.

i copy directories, or files, like we all do , from one partition to another, from a disk , an adf. whatever. randomly on any file, it locks up, not entirely, but crawls while the disk fills up , an endless loop of copying a small 4K file turns into a 350mb file, I have to reboot , run amiback tools to fix the bit map. its driving me crazy, I've done 2 amigas, same vampire, both have same issues. i used first m A2K kipper slot, even 68000 slot, 68K and rom removed of course,  then again last night on a fresh A500rev6a, same thing, tried 4 different cf cards, all listed as supported. fresh installs 3.1 3.14, and 3.9, they all start, but fail to finish, could be the C directory, could be L , or Libs, or fonts, anything anywhere, its totally random. if anyone has advice or feel free to chew me out, go for it,. im stumped.  please watch these vids i made, and let me know either her or in the comments section, your expertise and assistance is greatly valued. ,

the A2K attempting a 3.9 install -  EXTERNAL LINK  the 500 vampire -  EXTERNAL LINK
theres others too, feel free to check it out and help if you can. if you solve this dilemma i will hook you up somehow. have tons of Amiga hardware

I feel your pain.  Watching the video was enough to get frustrated myself, let alone having such problems.  For sure you should not have the experience you are having.

To help you along, could we perhaps try to reduce the complexity a little to bring number of influential points as closed to "just the vampire and just the disk".

I would try installing Apollo OS/Coffin54 (it seems you have Core 2.11) to a CF card and boot from that alone.  No CDROM and as few components as possible.  Just to reduce the scenario to something simpler.  I would then do simple copies from the hard disk to the RAM disk and then the reverse.  If you have this problem under this scenario, you can more or less say that it is either:

* The CF Card (unlikely since you tried a new one)
* The CF Card Read/Cable (also less likely but you should swap this to check)
* The Vampire

An A500 with Coffin 54 installed on a supported 32Gb flash disk booting from the CF without any other IDE devices is a known working configuration.  And a good starting point for trouble shooting and will avoid lots of annoying questions like "But did you do X because of peripherial Y?"

I would also say, keep the description of the problem simple: e.g. When I copy X files, the process fails at point Y.  Phrases such as "It did the copy thing again" are not super descriptive.  And remember, we Amiga fans are getting old. ;-)  A clear concise description goes a long way to getting the right answers.

If your card really is somehow faulty, it might be fixed with a reflash using a USB Blaster (I wouldn't do this from the Amiga at this point).  Or maybe it simply needs to be replaced.

Can you keep us updated with your progress?

I can't seem to find it. the weebly site its hosted on is down.  tried torrents and searches, but all seem to point to dead links...

ugh , no cable its direct 44 pin attached (this adaptor) EXTERNAL LINK

agreed, I tend to get wound up in the heat of the moment.

I did purchase the usb blaster with it, I asked Igor about refreshing the core again with a fresh flash and he said try coffin first but normal operations should work. if the system booted and the cf card size is autodetected it should work.

Can you keep us updated with your progress?

indeed i will, thank you for taking the time to reply with such a clear vision. I will find this coffin and report back. !

ide speed? idk gets around 6mbs in sysinfo , it was autodetected, although i did update max transfer to 0x1FE00 as suggested on the amiga fb group, regardless of setting, cards detect fine, i can partition them fine, and they boot and format fine. had a couple weird issues on the 2000 where i would format the disk, reboot and it would be gone, so i did not use those cards and purchased the listed supported cards from the Apollo wiki

card is this one  EXTERNAL LINK  from amiga on the lake.

I think he's referring to the speed setting with the vcontrol command, my guess it's whatever it defaults to as you would likely not fool around with the setting if you don't know of its existence.

oh i haven't even got that far yet, this is fire it up and base install, can't even copy the saga drivers or any utilities as this issue occurs beforehand, so whatever the default settings of the V2 core 2.11 are is what the are currently set at

Not Vampire related, but I didn't see where you set maxtransfer setting. It needs to be 0x1fe00 with the Amiga IDE or files of 128K or larger will be corrupted. Remember to press "Enter" to every field on HDToolBox.

SK you all are just awesome people.  yes i did a 0X1FE00 its happening on files less than anything like a 4 byte file, weird. I going to try pre config'd coffin to see if i am just a stupid human. (i am but proof of)  thank you all for your patience.

Well done , a downloaded preconfigured coffin release should sort you out.

With default IDE speed, the AMIGA will always get around 3.1 MB/sec
to max 3.4 MB/sec.

Anything else indicates either a bug in Sysinfo or that you somehow enabled FastIDE mode.

(Sysinfo is known to have several bugs. One know bug is that Sysinfo sometimes measures 6,5 MB/sec speed out of blue sky - and this results is then wrong.)

Regarding FastIDE.
FastIDE can be set to 3 values.
The max Speed does depend on the used device.
Depending on the device you can get 12 MB/sec or more (
with some devices even 18 MB/sec)

Please note that not all adapters are reliable.
I use an expensive $2 Chinese one - which works totally reliable.
Also please note that FastIDE will likely give problems
when you have 2 devices or with long cables.

Here's empty 4GB image for your CF card, if you want to test. It has PFS3 AIO filesystem and it's already formatted. Just write it into your CF card and try to install OS39 to it.

WOO HOO! , 33 new capacitors, a new CPU slot, a fresh Coffin 54, a blank 4G cf with the correct filesystem. and all is working spiffy. i guess this thing is just so smoking fast it cant use Fastfilesystem anymore. well it can , but it F's up.

I am typing this from the Vampire A2000~! thank you all so very much, now  i have to figure out what all these programs are. I booted the machine chose the network card, and freaking snoop dogg rap video started playing full screen on the DIGITAL-VIDEO interface. i was like WTF!??? hilarious.

Ah the happy sounds of a Vampire user.  :-)
This seems much closer to experience you should be having.  Nice work on getting it all going.

EXTERNAL LINK <-- You have to admit there is almost something orgasmic watching the progress bar in motion and watching the files been transferred and watching the selected files get unselected in such speed as it is transferring data.

ADMIT IT! PLEEEASSURE!!  Satisfying almost...like you discovered cure for cancer or something...I don't know why!
