I would call AROS look "Spartan" but functional.

Like AmigaOS 1.0 - plain 3.0 are cute >:)

Could this one boot on Vamp? (there are HDF and BIN files avail also)

btw aros is compatible with whatever icon standard as far as i know, there might be some corner cases, but i have never noticed that tbh. there bay be eventually some glitches when using aros icon.lib, but then as olaf says one may use peters one. ill probably make it default for our distribution, as well as scalos, as desktop if wanderer wont get any better soon. but what concerns skins, icons and execandy we are limited to what we can legally use. the ico sets from aminet usually do not contain any license specifications and it is obvious that we cant just use magicwb or something like that without an approval.

that leaves us with our own work and contibutions. that said i never really liked glow icons or os4 theme. im also sceptical about new icons, the idea is not bad, but they look too motley and too alike at the same time. i actually like magicwb and limited color schemes, even though these are also somewhat unreadable and graphically vague at times.

btw im currently testing aros with, from our perspective, extremely low spec machines, such as vanilla a1200 or a600with just an 1mb chip expansion. so far i can get into aros early startup, but i dont get into shell. softkicking aros takes too much ram to map in kickstart unfortunatelly. but who knows, with kickstart chip or flash these might even be usable to an extent.

Testing EmuTOS on Standalone. Vampire has a build-in EmuTOS rom (hold a joystick fire button while powering on).

I agree.  I was never impressed by anything made by Atari, not their machines nor their operating systems.  Even GEOS for the C64 looks better than TOS.  The acronym TOS always had me wanting to call it TrashOS.  LOL!

Basically a case of Mutually Assured Destruction - spent so much time fighting each other and driving each other in a race to the bottom on price that they lost to PCs and Apple.

Guys show respect to Atari community. Atari have superior apps and we need to work together. Atari is science and Amiga is art combine them together to balance each other out.

Its Tramiel Operating System.

Look was always minimalistic, but one should remember alternatives were DOS and Win 3.x (and macOS Classic that looked stylish and superior to both). I dont find it any uglier then AmigaOS 1.x.

I was impressed by TT Class apps like DTP and MIDI app ablities. As well as better marketing of ST/STE then A500/A500+

We all speak the same 68K ASM. No matter if Atari or Mac. :)

Here's Kronos overall results:

Yes, Atari is like the retarded little brother your parents forced you to take with you when you met your friends and that you nonetheless loved because you and your friends could put him in a barrel and roll him down the hill for fun.

This...

Also the Atari scene has a lot of good coders and I have nothing but respect for all those people who created great games for the ST.
