Anyone Tried a V500 In a CDTV?

as above. been on the hunt for an A2000, but then *idea* CDTV. I don't need zorro slots with a vampire...
but looking at the mainboard, there is a big fat capacitor that looks like it'll get in the way, and the mainboard as sat at the top of the case, so wouldn't want to put a riser o the 68k socket otherwise the lid wouldn't shut...

CDTV was never tested with V2 to my knowledge.
V4 is planned but might be separate CDTV/CD32 model.

Extended Roms will not work , so Cdtv , cd32 and A570 (?) CD-ROM won’t boot as the vamp uses the space.

Unless that’s changed in recent firmware updates it’s a no no. Sorry

This is present state. V4 could have a specific workaround in  CDTV/CD32 version. Not that anything can be promised, but its doable. Yes, there are "Amiga" limits in each and every model.

Also, could Vamp "move the space requirement" and enable better CD0: support :-) in future v2/v4 core revisions?

Thanks Michael, I did think that would be the case, I imagine the CD drive would be totally disabled let alone bootable... I did suspect as much...

and well.... I was thinking of fitting a standard IDE slim slot loader cd/dvd behind the face plate... I know I know "herecy! get the pitch forks and torches!" etc.  :D

i'll keep trawling the fleabay and thinking of that A1500 I sold for £80 years ago when I was much much younger, and somehow more stupid than I am now.

Is the CD ROM drive in the CDTV upgradable?

A new black slot loading drive and a Vampire would be the business in a CDTV.

I believe only replaceable by same model.
But big book of Amiga hardware might reveal some upgrades?

Yep. You need to disable CDTV bootrom and move few capacitors. I have put this fat one from the bottom of mainboard. There is no place for riser.

eeek. that sounds beyond my limited skill set! good work on making it happen though!

My skills are probably more limited then yours:). Whole operation: cut hole in shield, and place capacitor on two cables to put him horisontal to motherboard and "lay" few smaller capacitors that collide with vamp, and hdmi cable.

How could that be same model? Comparing mobos, CPU sockets and expansion ports, CDTV and CD32 have very little in common IMHO.

Does the A500 V2+ occupy the extended roms space or not?
Could the extended rom be flashed into Vampire?
There's the extended rom that's compatible with kickstart 3.1.

It would be awesome to get the CDTV working with the Vampire onboard.

"There's the extended rom that's compatible with kickstart 3.1." Yes there is, and...? Forget about CDTV support. AT will not do it.

True, my bad, I ment Cd32. V1200 could be adopted there, maybe.

As explained, CDTV problem is related to extended and special ROM mostly.

AFAIK
1) the V500 can be used in CDTV  (with default ROM CD not works)
2) the V1200 works in CD32 (with default ROM CD not works)

V500 works in CDTV, but CDTV without bootrom and built in CD is frankenstein. I see no sense to do it again. It works but it has no sense.

Why? ISO images can be stored on SDCard, and used there. It gets fast CPU, IDE, tons of mem and P96

Ideally, some future V500 core could make CDTV features usable again.

Because CDTV and CD32 are specific amigas, I have many A500 to put V500 there and not rip heart of my CDTV.
"some future V500 core could make CDTV features usable again" lets dream on.

What about a external disable switch that lets CDTV work as normal. I would love to put a Vampire in my CDTV but I would like a way to disable it if necessary.
