Isn't this proprietary?

It can't be proprietary when it contqins Workbench which shouldn't be distributed freely anyway (depending on who you listen to) and many other bits of copyright software

Coffin contains pirated software so obviously not legal to sell. But there are also lots of people who sell pre-configured CF cards with WB and WHDLoad games, which is also not allowed. It is mostly a case of breaching the terms of ebay rather than a software piracy issue since I doubt anyone would take legal action against any of those people. There seems to be a lot of confusion about who actually owns the rights to that software. Lots of claims, but would they dare to have it tried in a court of law?

Proprietary components are not illegal to sell as such. Original WB floppies are proprietary software, but anyone is allowed to sell them.

coffin is already illegal as it is

so it is just adding more illegality on top

Yes, Coffin is illegal. What we need  is something like classicwb or amigasys for Vampire. A OS that needs a copy of os 3.9 during installation. I use Coffin too but i also have Amiga forever (os 1 - 3.1) and OS 3.5 / OS 3.9 on original CD.

Its just for laisy boys who would not use Imaging tools to do it by themselves. I dont see how its different from manual install.

What would be a great start is a pack of AmiKit X for Vampire with OS 3.9 paid and included in install. Optimizing AmiKit X is not likely because it is essentially a compilation, not new code. Just way more legal then Coffin, nothing much more.
And its eBay listing, not an Amiga shop sale, so its actually his free will to give you whatever on card he is selling.

it is not just the os files

they also integrate software without permissions and at least in some of the cases I know that copyright owners would not allow it because I asked myself in the past

Well, charging anyone for anything one can do easily (here downloading torrent and imaging to a card) is pure capitalist "extra services" thing, and can be charged "extra".

I do understand concerns over CoffinOS, but its best for authors to raise them. So far, each one was acknowledged, as Coffin changelog shows.

Point of CoffinOS is to have updated, standardized modern AmigaOS 3.x distro that includes latest software. Something someone else could do, but does not.

Actually, you cant find a shred who is behind the sale.

NeoLiberal Capitalism in sense everything is legal until proven illegal (e.g. WTO food is good with less testing until proven unhealthy on market ...).

Guru Meditation videos are used for promo, but its not them, they are used as demo.

Those who wish such things, could get it much cheaper from Amiga dealers.

Those who trust giving CC numbers to any 6 min made website, please proceed.

Please no hustle on Coffin legality, there is no better and legal solution. But Coffin is offered as free download to existing Amiga users.

This is kind of profit on WB, Coffin and human stupidity.

6 posts from Mark Pearson all within the last 24hrs, and all relating to where you can buy Coffin OS and how good it is.... 🤔

No details available to identify whose behind the website. All a coincidence maybe??

I like the way the website refers to coffin as being public domain, when it isn't at all. It's a totally illegal package containing much copyrighted material (including Workbench itself).

But yeah, if you love the Amiga that much then support someone selling something available for free and charging a stupid markup for it. Rather than supporting the developers themselves who may still be actively developing for the Amiga.

People who buy this are dicks. If you can't image an SD card yourself, then you shouldn't have a an Amiga. Simple!

Support developers!

Actually if you cannot flash this yourself you shouldn't be using a computer period.

An 8 year old could do this!

No reason to drag Cloanto's name thru the mud, just cause someone decide to monetize a pirated OS.

Agreed. Coffin has some good, some bad. Reselling Coffin is like selling Linux. Or Some Flower Pots.
