I have just received a mail with a notification of a new Compatible Case for Amiga 500 & Plus

Does the Appolo team get familiar with the casing that is offered with vampire attachments and can we safely support it?

They state that the project is officially supported by the Apollo Team and I'm sure they wouldn't write that if it wasn't true.

They began cooperating on the last A1200.net crowd funding campaign  for Amiga keycaps that included options Vampire special edition keycaps and A1200 cases. The Vampire 4 in this campaign video and pictures was obtained from the Apollo team at the Amiga 32 show specifically to allow cooperation on integrating the Vampire boards into the new A500 cases.

Vampire support seems to be quite extensive.

"Ready for the Vampire V4 Standalone

A supplied Cradle for the Vampire V4 Standalone is mounted on the case bottom frame.
It simply clips in the V4 board, and you're ready.

(We just need v4 standalone boards on sale)

Finally, someone is Vampire port friendly!

    "Dedicated ports extender (V500 & V4 Standalone)
This ports extender is compatible with V500 V2+ and V4 Standalone.
It facilitates the use of Vampire boards ports & SD Card reader from outside the case.
No need to open the case to change your SD Card or connect anything USB or DIGITAL-VIDEO."

There is even a standalone Vamp picture!

And a "Vamp edition pack" now $184

To me it seems a pretty good solution for actual v500 v2 and maybe v500 v4. But for standalone there are many missing points..powering cable and db9s remains inside the case? How to connect an a500 keyboard and disk drive? Is an a500 case the best amiga case for a standalone? For me is way too big. An a600/a1200 case would be more appealing (my opinion)..

They might be thinking of standalone as Pi, small board with just the SDCard. Keyboard could be external USB with just the keys, but this is just the guess, you are completely right about questions.

However, CheckMate might give some more answers straightforward

  With Kickstart yet to come.

Third expected is "teams bare bone case" which also looks alike just for the board and the SDCard, with no details.

Stephen Jones's project is amazing..maybe a bit too ambitious. The idea I got is that it's a case for technical people who knows exactly what to do (so it scaries me a bit). In my opinion the ideal solution for standalone vampire have to target that board only still retainig the amiga visual flavour (a mini 3000 case, maybe?)

A3000 and A1000 designs were nice and professional looking (and these two models were revolutionary - A1000 bringing OCS chipset, and  AmigaOS to the world (XT compatibility with add on card) and A3000 bringing flicker fixer, ECS and VGA modes, SCSI, full 32-bit CPU and Zorro and with FPU. AGA could be seen as bitplane palette update and IDE as downgrade. So someone doing it for the Vamp would be nice, especially if A3000/A4000 models dont make it. Some future standalone being some standard format - miniITX would help a lot.

For now, choice between A1200.net and Checkmate is likely IF BOTH FUNDING CAMPAIGNS SUCCEED. I love UK devotion to Stephens project, but to pure A1200 look-a-like I will take chances with A1200.net

A1200.net has created a nice and affordable package - $184 first 100 Vamp themed black cases

Vojin: I am aware that these cases are beautiful for hosting a vampirized 500/500+. I'm not sure they will be standalone-ready enough.. I'm deeply interested in an amiga-looking case for my future standalone v4, so this indiegogo is  very tempting for me..;D

Well, it needs to be funded within next month, or wont happen even at April 1st 2019

Seems to be quite steandalone ready. If standalone could be somewhat upgraded (+ model) to have classic keyboard header and floppy headers, as well as standard audio out (chinches), it could be quite enjoyable one as well as we could us A500 and Amiga keyboards to fill this thing (where I find lack of keyboard and PSU major weakness of project). If not, some solution with some slim USB keyboard could be found I hope.

Vampire standalone as extremely small board leaves a lot of space inside. Problem is that it does not have supporters like e.g. Lorianos X500 evo where picoPSU, SSD IDE drive, slim DVD instead of floppy or classic floppy could fit in.

P.S.
They could throw in SD Card with ApolloOS/Coffin and Blaster too >:-) And full pack with the board

Hi Guys,

I'm Phil from A1200NET team.

Nice to join you on our partner's forum.

Just to confirm to those wondering, both teams A1200NET & APOLLO are partners.

It started from the Keycaps campaign, and the partnership is extended on the A500 case, as well as future projects.

@Vojin Vidanovic,

The campaign lasts 45 Days.
If needed, we can extend it two weeks more to reach the goal.

So we'll certainly do everything possible, with all the support you guys can bring to the campaign.

► Keep in mind that -ALL- the A500 Cases pledges are Vampire ready. Even the first reward.

If you have more questions, do not hesitate.

Thank you for your support guys,

Cheers,
Phil

Hi Phil,

The solution for the A500 with a Vampire accelerator is a good one but for the stand alone Vampire 4 it would be better if the Ethernet and DIGITAL-VIDEO ports were at the other side of the rear with the
'MONO' port changed from circular to square to take the Ethernet socket and the DIGITAL-VIDEO using the RGB Video opening (with 'RGB' removed from the case leaving just 'VIDEO' as the label). It would also be nice if there was a set of colour matched blanking covers for the rear ports.

  Good luck with the campaign.

Dear Phil. Thanks for joining, hope Vamp users will turn to be a good campaign supporters.

My questions are (all Standalone fitting related):

1) Keyboard. I dont have a500 and I target your case for a standalone. It uses USB. Any idea what USB keyboard or Amiga2USB converter and a500 style keyboard on sale would fit?

2) Somewhere standalone powering was mentioned as miniUSB phone style jack. Great for Vampire itself, but will that drive an SSD and DVD connected to it? What PSU could fit the difference of Vamp and A500 board?

3) If standalone support 2-4 IDE devices (an SSD and DVD-RW) could they fit the space difference inside the case and could LAN and USB connectors be also extended to backplates or we count on right positioning of mini board and its connector orientation? Genetally, is this case+standalone "just for standalone + SD Card" or some mounters and holders could be made for PSU, SSD, DVD instead of floppy?

Hi Vojin,

Hopefully MOST of Vamp users will support the campaign :)

To answer your questions.

1) For now the only option publicly available is this one:
EXTERNAL LINK
But new options might come out soon ;)

2) For Vamp powering you should see with Apollo team

3) The solution the case provide is so to export the Vamp connectors via expansion cables on the top right side of the case. LAN/USB/DIGITAL-VIDEO (rear)/ SD

Using the standalone board you can set SSD or any drives pretty much anywhere. But the team will not add any DVD doors.

So no mounts for DVD or PSU.

Cheers
Phil

Hi Ian,

Currently we've studied that, however adding a mount just for the rear panel does not work is it would need us to actually modify the rear panel itself.

Together with the right side being slightly modified as well, it's not a replica anymore.

And we do want our original motherboards to fit nicely and correctly.

That's why the discreet right position was selected.
It also permits us to create a rear trapdoor.

- The extra rear trapdoors could be possible though.
In fact we wasn't sure people would want something like that..

Thank you for your suggestion Ian,
Hope to count you as one of our backers ;)

Cheers,
Phil

OK, got it, its on us (modders) to solve that part. I do understand its more factoring to being A500 replica then mini-board system ready (where system can include DVD/HDD-SDD).

Will consider, but yet likely to support as Amiga 500 working and V4 500 Vampire might do the same magic as Standalone, plus Checkmate is not yet up.

Hi Vojin,

In fact it's not as simple. ^^

What you'd like to see available in this new case might not be what other Amigans would like.

We try to bring functionalities without too much compromises to stay the more original as possible. Of course we've added a trapdoor already. But if we include all options we hear here and there, it's not the same product campaign anymore ;)

The other reason is that we have other projects coming.
And one of it being a new keyboard, which you might know already haha ;)

Thanks again hope you to join us on the campaign ;)

  Cheers
  Phil
