Hi.

Is there a way to make the HDD LED in an Amiga 2000 work with the Vampire?

There are a few methods I've seen, some people have tapped into a fet that's on one model of CF to IDE adapter, this to me is the hard way and it won't work on all solutions.

The other method is to actually use the IDE's Activity pin. This is pin 39, this pin is normally held low until there is activity. so you put the positive end on the LED on the +5V Logic VDD on the 44pin IDE connector and connect ground to pin 39. use a 300Ohm resistor in series with the LED and that is it.

The CF adapter I purchased had a PCB through hole connector which was easy to solder a connector to. If your using a real HDD, then pehaps you can modify a cable or something.

  Quick and dirty diagram:

Thanks, I'll have a look at that.

For documentation reasons:
it's not pin 40 but pin 41 that is the +5V.

Yeah looks like I made my diagram slightly wrong.

Otherwise it's working quite nicely.

Wiring the case LED to pins 39 & 41 of the IDE adapter works perfectly, thanks for this tip!
