Warning : Vampire V500 In A2000 Using Slot-adaptorpage  1 2

Dear Users,

The Vampire-2 V500 is designed for the Amiga-500.

The Vampire-2 V500 can physically be plug into the Amiga-500 in one way. By accident plugging it in upside down is physically not possible.

Vampire-2 V500 can physically also be plugged in the A2000 68K CPU socket. Also here upside down plugging in is physically not possible.

There are some 3rd party connectors on the market which allow plugging in the Vampire V500 into the A2000 CPU-slot.
Please be aware that some of those connector might allow the user to plug in the card "rotated" - please understand that this wrong connection of the card will result in short circuits - propably destroying the Vampire and the AMIGA.

Please be aware that usage / problems caused by connectors are not covered under warranty.

One important info:
You always need to REMOVE the old 68000!

In the AMIGA the CPU is driven by the 7 MHz clocks.
The CIA chips of the AMIGA needs an extra clock which is created inside the CPU. This clock is called E-CLK.

The VAMPIRE is designed to replace the 68000 CPU.
Therefore the VAMPIRE has of course to create this E-CLK for the AMIGA to continue to function.
This means if you put the VAMPIRE inside an A2000 with this adapter,
then the VAMPIRE will drive the E-CLK from there and the AMIGA works.

Mind that
You always need to REMOVE the old 68000!
Otherwise you have 2 chips in the AMIGA both driving the E-CLK which  can not work.

How does this relate to raisers Acil has been selling for the exactly same purpose? Surely, there is also a right way to do it.

I translate Gunnars post with "You better know what you are doing!" with regards to orientation/installing the card via connectors.

It is pretty much the same as I was told when I asked if I could use the Prisma Musiccard on my A600 with the 604n expansioncards clockports.
I was told that yes, you can install and use the Prisma card with the 604n clockport, but if I plug it in the wrong orientation, I would risk shorting both the card and the motherboard.

Obviously if you try to use hardware beyond the default method, you are on your own.

Thats all I read from Gunnars post.

OK, proper instruction should be given, not just warning that can put people off. I suppose similar would be needed again for v4 500 model used in A2000.

I do not understand why the adapters aren't sold with a manual and some pictures to show how the Vampire should be installed,
In this way even a monkey could places the vampire in the a2000.

Where is the fun in that?

there are people who manage to force a short zorro card such as deneb upside down into the slot. not to speak about clockport expansions, where the correct installation seems to be a pure lottery.

Trust me, in haste anything you would consider stupid is possible.
Ask me how I know.

I have Jen's Aca 500 plus which he advises not to insert into the 1000.
Ok, many say so what if it doesn't sync on first boot, just reset. Fine that may be ok, but taking it out and trying on other 500s and then hastily putting it in wrong way can happen.

Yes, I fried the circuitry or some part of it. In my mind I know it goes in a different way but not UPSIDE DOWN!

Yes, live and learn on this and let people know. Acill has sold a lot of these adapters.

I bought my A2000 slot adapter from Acill.  But I am waiting for Vampire V4.  I was told this adapter may not work with the V4... :(

Because?

No body outside the team has even touched it :-)

If connector is the same, there is no reason why not.

Because it was not tested yet.  This is a clone of the Kipper2K adapter (and/or the same one).  I understand Acill bought remaining stock from Kipper.  He also produced some of his own boards based on that design.

If you can test Kipper's adapter with the V4 and verify it works/fits that would be great.

Sadly, yes, unkeyed connectors can cause a disaster.

A possible problem with Kipper2k's Vampire 500 V2 adapters being used with the V4 is the small amount of space between the left of the 68000 socket and the A2000 motherboard. See EXTERNAL LINK and EXTERNAL LINK

I bought one from Acill and it does have silk screening showing how to install the chip and also how to orient the slot into the 2000.

So you MUST remove the 68000 CPU even if you use the A2000 Slot adapter with the Vampire installed? You typically do not have to do this with other accelerators.

Right now my A2000 has a Blizzard 2060 in the A2000 CPU slot and I did not have to remove the 68000 CPU.

You got that right.
You have to remove the on board 68000 in any way.

Mind that the V500 is designed for the A500 and
that its designed as CPU replacement.

Hi,

will the V4 have a Jumper or such to instruct it to work as an Accelerator for the A2000 instead? With no need to remove the MC68000?

Likely answer will be no because it was not intended for the 2000 and certainly wasn’t designed for the processor slot but rather to go into the 68000 socket on the motherboard.  Anything other than that use case is a 3rd party’s solution which the vampire guys don’t support.
