Hello :)

I was wondering if anyone has instructions on how I use Apollos on an Amiga 1200 with the V1200? I have downloaded the image from here, but I guess I need an AROS ROM? Where can I get it and do I just pop it on to the SD card to use it?

Cheers for any assistance :D

Guide for linux from the top of my head:

    1. Download latest ApollOS image from here:
    EXTERNAL LINK
    2. Insert cfcard into adapter/computer. Check device name with dmesg and note down. !!IMPORTANT!! using the wrong device name in the next command will destroy all data on the target. (of=)
    3. Write image to cf card using dd:

 dd if=<apollOS image> of=/dev/<cfcard device> bs=1M

On other OS's it should be pretty similar, search for a tool which can transfer images to cf cards.

It should now be possible to boot from the cfcard, either using the A1200 onboard ide controller with a cfcard adapter or the Vampire interface with a sdcard adapter (here you would needed the latest Gold RC).

It is not possible to boot from SD Card AFAIK.

AROS doesn't see the V1200 IDE interface. So you are limited to the A1200's onboard interface I am afraid.

There was an experimental SD Card driver which enabled this.  This needs some work before it can be made available though.  It is on the WIP list.

Is there already a solution? With AMikit I just copy the data to a CF and it starts. Also via the IDE port of the vampires. I just try ApolloOS it shows me that no CF is present. And using the slow IDE port of the A1200 would be a step backwards.

The 2 IDE interfaces on A1200/V1200 combo need 2 drivers.
Our Kickstart 3.10 includes 2 drivers for it.

Aros Kick today only includes 1 IDE driver.
So there is no solution today.

Do you still get a Coffin r57 img for a CF?

I think the newest Coffin is #59
I would download the latest free image and copy to CF.

OK so I updated my v1200 to the latest rc core, I can happily run coffin. I then download the apollo OS and it's a ima file. I use the right software to write it to a 32gb SD card, and it seems fine, but as soon as I start up my 1200 with it in the vamp or on board ide slot it just bring up the Amiga floppy boot screen. What am I doing wrong?

I have done the same thing. I have Gold 2.13 flashed on my Vampire V2. I wrote the image of Apollo OS R5 using SD Imager from the downloads section to a 16gb CF Card. I first inserted it on Vampire IDE and didn't work. Then tried the A1200 IDE and still no boot. Just the floppy screen comes up.

Btw I have OS 3.1 roms installed on my A1200.

All my Coffin images work fine. Would just like to play around with Apollo OS to compare the differences. Is there a step I'm missing?

Thanks.

think the Apollo guys are doing a good job. But it's a shame that I can't use the Apollo OS on the Vampire's IDE port. It would be nice if a better solution could be found. Because I would like to use it.
