Vampire A600: Will There Be Sound Via HDMI?page  1 2

Hi,

owning the Vampire 2.1 for my A600 for about two years now I really like it. - The only thing I don't like is, that there is no sound via DIGITAL-VIDEO.

*sorry, that I don't follow all the threads here in the forum and that this question may have been asked before.

    Two questions:
    - Will there be sound via DIGITAL-VIDEO?
    - Will there be an AGA core?

So have a lot of fun and thanks for the info.

    MfL

  P.S.: I wrote "... sound via DIGITAL-VIDEO" and not DIGITAL-VIDEO
(Was replaced by the forum software... :( - I definitely don't like to be edited!!!!)

Hi

The audio generation of the AMIGA is done in the Amiga mainboard.
PAULA is the Amiga mainboard chip used for this.

For V600, V500, V1200 currently the best way to get audio out of the Amiga is using the normal CHINCH audio out of the Amiga.

The Vampire can also produce the Audio - if a core with the SAGA(+AGA) chipset is loaded.
Right now there is only a very early alpha version of this available.

We are currently polishing and perfecting the V4 SAGA+AGA core.
When this works is finished it makes sense to port the new SAGA to V2/V500 again.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Any suggestions, when/if this will happen?

Usually my A600 is connected only to the PSU and to DIGITAL-VIDEO (DIGITAL-VIDEO, as this will surely(?) be replaced). I'd really like to have at least some sound... ;->

2nd Question: There is no option, just to forward the Paula Sound to the DIGITAL-VIDEO (DIGITAL-VIDEO, as this will surely(?) be replaced)?

I use on AMIGA for audio a external PC speaker system attache over cinch.
I have for example a "Logitech Z623".
I'm very happy with it.

D. Kampschulte, what is the device you would like to get the sound from via D-V? Maybe I can be of assistance...

Hi there this is a good point as I too wanted to use the DIGITAL-VIDEO for all output and have not used my amiga in ages because of this. can I make a suggestion? can you not release a "inbetween" core that instead of doing AGA is just ECS so we can get sound and video out of the vampire? perhaps not as hard to do as AGA? Im not sure I am no programer so please tell me if its stupid idea!

You have to consider that the work requirement for doing such a release is immense.
We speak here about 5-6 month work.

Longer than that, this has been promised at least a couple of years.
I know things change and you buy for what features has right now, but still most expected something way before now on this due to your previous statements.

still I am satisfied with what I can do with V2.

You misunderstand my point.
Making a release (port) with the current state on 4 for V2 is a lot of work. We talk here about 5 month work.

This is a huge effort.
Spending this much time make sense only when the V4 core is 100% polished - we can not spend 5 Month now for a core which will be replaced by the V4 work again the next day.

@Lord Aga - Thanks...

It would be nice to have the Paula-/RCA audio signal available via DIGITAL-VIDEO.

I'm using different monitors and different retro computers. I don't have a permanent setup so I would like to avoid a big bunch of cables.

As described by @James Leadbeater "in a perfect world" all audio and video of the A600 would be available via DIGITAL-VIDEO... ;-)

And as @David Wright said: I'm expecting (hoping for) this since I got my Vampire two years ago or so.

Fiddling around with the A600 is nice but anytime the resolution changes to PAL/NTSC the least to be done is to switch the TV from DIGITAL-VIDEO to SCART and back. This isn't very comfortable.

Could pick up an DIGITAL-VIDEO Audio inserter box. I found a few off an Amazon search with various prices.

I'm not sure there is a path on the V2 to enable Paula through DIGITAL-VIDEO without essentially disable all the original chipsets and memory of the Amiga. Essentially the Gold 3.x route.

At which point the amiga just becomes a power source, keyboard and mouse

It is better to buy V4SA.

Yeah I agree, why I think an Audio Inserter box is a better choice for the purist that still wants audio going to their TV.

I can see it as an Avenue for some, just rather use my classic hardware. I don't need AGA, I'm fine with RTG and OCS/ECS.

@Alex K. To be honest: I prefer my A600.

As it's in mint (== unused before I got it in 2018 or so) condition, fiddling around with it reminds me of how it was back then.

  see: EXTERNAL LINK
Using other FPGA stuff like the ZX-Uno, this is a nice reproduction of the technical stuff, but it doesn't feel like the original thing.

The A600 touches and feels like the original but has much more power when a Vampire is installed. To me it's like the Amiga I'd like to have at that time...

Don't say the H-word here.
You don't want to have someone pay a licence fee ;)
Although it may look like HDXX and does what XXMI does, it surely is only a DIGITAL-VIDEO connection.

Hi D.Kampschulte. As I understand, you are shooting for convenience. And that is understandable, especially when you have multiple devices connected, and it becomes hard to juggle everything. Believe me, I know :) "One cable to rule them all" would be the most convenient way to go, but it is not possible at the moment. So...

The next best thing - a lot of TVs/monitors have an audio input jack. I know it's +1 cables but you can sleeve the two of them most of the way from Amiga to screen. So it's like 1.2 cables in reality :)

But! Going back to what Gunnar wrote upstairs, our Amigas really deserve the best possible audio system, and TV/Monitor speakers are kind of pathetic. So a dedicated speaker system, or a Hi-Fi/mini line is really the thing our beloved computer should get :)

Hope this helps somehow!

I 100% agree with Lord Aga. You should really connect Paula to a good Hi-Fi Stereo System or studio monitors. The difference is like night and day!!

@Lord Aga: It doesn't!

About one year before I bought my Vampire it has been "anounced/promised", that sound, Video, AGA, etc. would/could/should/will... be available.

I've bought mine in 2017 or 2018 Because of this "anouncement".

As a customer (in 2020) I'm really UNPLEASED. - Even though I like the Vampire, I'm unhappy about the progress to be honest...
