No, Debian will never boot without MMU support. The kernel can boot, but systemd will be the first thing to crash.

It's already hard enough to get updated packages compiled for m68k (and the guys at Debian m68k accomplished that!) with MMU.

About speed, I don't have any metric, but I feel the Apollo Core as fast as a Pentium II 200 MHz... And I can assure you tthat machine can run current Linux quite well. You have just to know that you will have to remain with lightweight software, so no Firefox, Chrome, GNOME 3, LibreOffice and such.

I successfully booted kernel 3.16 on an Amiga 600 with an ACA 030/25 and console speed was quite usable. EXTERNAL LINK

Your Video looks like the boot process takes about 6 Minutes?
Is this correct?

How long would this take with X11 and Gnome or KDE?

Wow, and I find the 5 seconds on Vampire booting to Workbench gui slow.

I have to salute you Carlos, you are a man of great patience.

Its a bit unfair to linux. It Has no Part in rom (ideally, Amiga ks with amiboot and kernel could be made) and genetici kernels tend to try everything.
Also, 030 Is underdog to modern Linux.
My goal Is lxde plus libre 3, gimp and webkit based browser on v4

You are a true enthusiast. I like this. :-)
But I fear your dream is not that realistic.
I think this will be very slow.

Point is that it works. And that I have hopes for V6+

Surely, some high end X20+ core and 1GB fast DDR4 as well as at least some gfx acceleration would be better suited. Point is to fully replace X1000 as true Amiga :)

I will be joined with a Linux guru that has helped me with CFE/PPC Linux x1000 mess :)

I really am a patient man :) It was just an experiment, not that I was serious about running a current Linux on a 030.

I said many times: I am already happy with the way the Apollo Core and the Vampire are *today*, you did and you are doing a hell of a work here! It is just that I like UNIX in general and I think it would be cool to run it on the Amiga, but I clearly understand that the MMU thing is a lot of effort without a clear value or benefit more than running UNIX-like OSes and maybe some improved debugging capabilities that the regular user will never look into.

PD: Yup, about 6 minutes to boot up. I was actually surprised the keyboard response time were good after the never-ending booting :)

Arguably yes. But IMHO there must be something broken in that installation. The framebuffer is awfully slow. Much slower than the one I got on my gvp530 with the linux Watchtower distribution 20+ years ago. An even earlier, even 8bit machines can scroll such text way much faster (or think about dumb ttys).

In Deb 3 / PPC Apus days, m68k Amiga hardware used to be way better supported. Now it may need to have support leeched from older distros, hand configs and such.

Arguably, software render with no real RTG support is expected to be major feeling killer. Fixing that would make it lot easier.

Latest Deb port seems to be very generic.

I would be REALLY interested in getting "Vampire V4 SA", if only it had MMU that works with Linux 5.0+. Mostly for use with Debian m68k port, but also usable as Amiga compatible hardware is definitively is something I am looking to.

If it emulated existing 68k MMU interfaces that can be nice. But if you find it limiting (i.e. because of caches, or multi channel memory, or other aspects), I am pretty sure upstream kernel could be updated to include support for a custom hardware MMU interface.

080 PMMU support in latest m68k kernel / last ucLinux or similar would be perfect solution. With Linux "backward 040 style" compatibility is not a necessity.
