I'm working on a 3D modeling program called RayStorm. The Amiga version requires Storm Mesa and a 68040 or 68060 with FPU. Would the Software FPU on 68080 Apollo Core be sufficient to run this program?

Also, which version is more compatible with the Vampire, 68040 or 68080 code?

Actually, APOLLO has 68080 has a Hardware FPU.
Popular 3D programs like Cinema4D ran perfectly with it - and much faster than 68040 and 68060.

Do you have a Vampire?
If not do you want us to run your program for testing?

I have an A500 V2 but I don't have the latest FPGA core installed. What is the latest Core for V2 plus with FPU? Also, what Core did you test Cinema wth? Just curious.

The m68k version of RayStorm 3D modeler was recompiled about 5 years ago by someone else. It's written in Cpp. I'm working on a revised version for AROS. I've already written the Image Viewer component.

The compiled binaries are available for 68040 and 68080. Not sure which would run better on the Vampire. The 68k sources are also available.

I've installed the 68040 version on Amiga OS 3.9 in WinUAE which is an exact copy of the OS I'm running on my Apollo A500 V2 on my Amiga 500. I selected 68040 as CPU and FPU in CPU in WinUAE. It requires Cybergraphx and Storm Mesa and a full FPU. I can get the main window to load a scene but when I try to render it the program freezes. I'd like to test it to see what the program does at each stage to compare to the source code.

RayStorm RayTracer may be another good program to showcase the graphics capabilities of 68080 plus SAGA if you'd like to try to run it on Vampire accelerators.

GOLD 2.11 is the latest release.
I recommend to upgrade to this version.

Cinema runs fine on all recent cores.
