Odd ENC28J60 Ethernet Behaviour (v2ethexp)

Hi,

Recently, for some reason, my Ethernet TCP/IP connection on my Vampire 500 V2+ times out (stops responding)randomly. IBrowse will time out and AmFTP will fail to connect. The connection never lasts more than 1 minute. If I stop and restart the TCP/IP stack (such as Miami or Roadshow) then I will regain connectivity but the same thing will happen again. I have tried different cores (2.10 and 2.11) as well as different v2ethexp.device versions (1.3 to 1.5)with no luck. All wiring is fine and nothing looks out of place.

I ordered a new ENC28J60 module just in case but if there is something not right with it I doubt turning the TCP/IP stack off then back on again would temporarily get it to work. But then again, who knows.

Any idea what is going on, things I could try?

Hmmm. Same thing here with same setup, but using Genesis for stack. I was thinking of getting another ENC28J60 module since they are cheap, or changing out my wires connecting it in case problem is there. Unsure of where the problem is, but sometimes I cannot connect or lose the connection I had.

I am going to try my PlipBox and see if it suffers in the same way. My  A600 with the Vampire v2.1 works fine with the PCMCIA wired Network card. Very odd indeed.

Anyway, let me know if the new Ethernet Module works. I will also post my Plipbox results once tested.

Well, no luck. I tried the Plipbox and it does exactly the same thing. The connection just hangs after a minute or so until I either reboot the computer or manually start and restart the TCP/IP stack. My Amiga 600 v2.1 is using the exact same Coffin OS image and it has no issues using the PCMCIA Network card. The Fact the Plipbox does the same things as the SPI connected Ethernet module, I can rule out the module as well as the SPI port.

This is very odd... I will try an earlier version of the Coffin OS that I backed up in April from my A500, I think it was r53. We shall see if this helps.

Update...

The A500 CoffinOS image I had was r51. Once restored, I installed the 1.5 SAGA drivers. The connection timeout issue is no more.

Not sure what in going with r54 on the A500 since everything seems to be fine TCP/IP Stack wise on my A600.

Allan, to be clear I have not ordered another module. Just was thinking about it. Heh. However, with no changes made to anything here other than handling the wiring a bit, I have not had any dropouts for two straight days. Been online since yesterday evening. Fingers crossed it may have been connetion problem.

Nice to hear. When I get home I will try CoffinOS r54 again and see if my luck changes on the A500. Thanks for the update.
