I'm the happy owner of a V500 v2.

I have a few questions/problems and would apreciate some help.

1. Gold 2.11 won't boot at all. Why?

2. I installed Gold 2.10. It seems to be working, but only in black and white. Do I have to register my S/N to get colours?

3. I tried some games with whdload, and the music played insanely fast. With Monkey Island 2, the music sounded at least 10 times faster than normal. The rest of the game is running normal. Same with the Settlers.
Is there a way to adjust this or is it possible that the problem is with the Amiga itself?

I'm running the last coffin by the way.

Any help will be apreciated.

Thanks

1) Some FPGAs on Vampire 500 V2 could be too weak to run latest core and might require a capacitor modification to make it stable.

2) The registration period for the old cards is over. All new boards are automatically registered. If your card is new one, it should have colors with the Gold 2.11 core.

3) Test turtle mode with the WHDLoad games. You can enable it by selecting NoCache from WHDLoad.

Thank you for useful answers. My card is brand new from amigastore.

I don't understand that it should need a capacitor modification already... Not good. I hope I will be able to run the latest core for some time without modifications.

I will test turtlemode tonight.

Thanks.

I thought it was only the vampire 600 v2's that had the issue that required a capacitor mod.
I have one of the new 500 V2.1's from amigastore.eu and it runs Gold 2.11 fine.

One thing to ask is do you have a memory expansion fitted, there have been some reports of the new core having issues with memory expansions, if you do take it out and it should boot ok. I would expect an update in the near future that fixes this.

Wow. It booted gold 2.11 without memory expansion :)
And with colours!

Thanks a lot. Two problems solved. Let's check out this turtle mode😊

@Anders Svalstuen Ruud

Welcome!

Yeah, it was the Kippercards that had the cap issue, which are V600 v2 cards, like I have. They are of the more early batches of cards being sold.

Mind you, Im personally quite happy with the card.

Turtle mode didn't help. Have other people had the same soundproblem?

Just confirming that in you went into ToolTypes for each game in question and typed in NoCache?

Well. I haven't used my amiga since the 90's, so everything is almost new to me again. It's fun, but kind of challenging. I have missed this for many years..
I typed NoCache, but it didn't help.
All lucasarts games behaves like this.

Show the icon information.

In the window section where the SLAVE is defined, chose a free line and enter NoCache in the "Edit" section. Press Enter (this is the most important part).

Click save.

I noticed the same "problem" with the WHDload demo NOlimits (2unlimited). The music seems to be playing at a normal speed, but looking at the demo on the screen it's not running in sync with each other.
I don't see this sync problem when i'm playing the same demo on my 1200 with a ACA1232 accalerator.

i'm running gold2.11 with a A512 memory expansion

Actually WHDLoad suffers same issues with the real 68040. And Vampire is even faster. You can reproduce WHDLoad issues on WinUAE selecting "040+fast as possible+do not wait blitter".

I've tried typing NoCache in tooltypes in igames. And also the other suggestions that's been mentioned here. I think I remember that my 500 played the music in these games slightly fast in the old days too. But not at this speed. Is it possible that it's something wrong with it, and not the vampire?

It might be that those problems are just related to new core 2.11. At least in my few tests v2.11 is not as compatible with WHDLoad-installed games as core 2.10. I tried 2.11 with my Amiga 2000 + Vampire 500 V2 setup. Stardust had half screen of garbage after tunnel-section and games timer starts from too low number. That timer problem however was same in older cores too. Super Tetris background graphics have several glitches, and Pinball Fantasies was too fast to be playable and music played way too fast. Platoon's title screen graphics were corrupted at the top of screen, and game quite quickly crashed. Blue Angels had graphical problems after a few seconds of flying.
