Artur and Quetzal ported the game SONIC to Vampire

Are you ready to run with Sonic again?

Has anyone managed to get this to work? The unpack.bat files give me a ton of errors and the installation instructions are practically non-existent so no help.

Works on Icedrake....

There's a "user manual.txt".
After downloading and installing the game data, just copy the new created drawer to your amiga.

Doesn't work on my Icedrake because I can't get the PC side to work in the first place. I've read the user manual and it's no help.

Some of the errors I get when running the unpack.bat files:

The term 'Invoke-WebRequest' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.

'#powershell' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

ERROR: The system cannot find the file specified.

The result of the above is that I end up with a folder called 'SonicVampedPack', with subfolders sonic1, sonic2, SonicVamped, SonicVamped2.

Where are these supposed to go? Are they supposed to exist at all? Who the fuck knows?

TBH, I never liked Sonic much anyway. So this is definitely not worth the hassle, certainly not in 2022. Same with a lot of the ports. If the authors can't be bothered to write proper documentation, why should I bother with their games?

Geez, mate, this is an attitude that seems entitled to me.

To be frank, I also had trouble upon the initial release of the Sonic port, but afterwards the Arti made the install process automated and everything was properly documented, so it was actually very easy. So I think you are being unfair here or you just didn't bother to do things properly.

Gave this a go too, runs okay but feels slower than the original? No noticeable lag or anything just a slower pace?

But very playable, same with Sonic. Enjoyed them both. :)

That's a fair enough take, but I'm honestly anything but entitled and will gladly RTFM if one is available to R. I actually assume by default that things *won't* work, and am pleasantly surprised when they do. And I certainly appreciate the work people like Arti put into porting games for free.

I'm just frustrated as I have spent a lot of time and effort trying and failing to get something to work that everyone else has no problem with. I've followed the instructions, tried multiple times on different machines, and it just doesn't work. And there is no information available as to why. Is it a Windows issue? Do I need to install a program on the PC before attempting the unpacking / installation? Am I not putting files in the right folders? Is there a more recent version that I should download? I've asked here, and on the Discord channel, and on Arti's site, but never get any help. It's like being in a really boring B-movie.

So, where is the documentation you mention?

A quick google of "The term 'Invoke-WebRequest' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program." tells me that you're probably running Powershell 2.0 or older. MS are now up to PowerShell 7.2 (LTS).

Looks like you need to consider updating your Windows end of things... Eg, See this page from 2014: EXTERNAL LINK

It works nice on my icedrake, may be faster than the original game but is has some sound issues. Some sound effects have a delay and some ones never get played.

Thanks Alex. That's exactly the kind of helpful information I was after. I'll check the Powershell versions I have on my PCs and try the install one more time.

LOL. So "A quick google of "The term 'Invoke-WebRequest' " is too hard for you? You had to wait someone do it for you? I would do the same as I wouldn't  know  either. That's first script in PowerShell I made using google as well. I can't test it on every version of Windows...
But, by the name I would assume that script can't open web address that is in the script so I would just copy it to web browser and download needed file.

Laughing at people, nice.

As it happens I got it working first time. All these requests for help were just part of my research into the Amiga community after 10 years away; specifically in this case how user friendly it is to newcomers who might lack knowledge or skills.

I actually work in software development professionally and have owned Amigas on and off since 1991.

So, yeah. Thanks for the port.

So you essentially trolled me, making me waste my time googling answers for a non-existent problem that you'd intentionally created?

"Nice".
