All Kudos to NovaCoder, but we can play original Dune2 OCS ;) So we decide free or original Amiga release ;)

Would be interested in any kind of improvement,
e.g. Dune Dynasty (build on OpenDune) or OpenRA (old school command
and conquer + Dune 2000) port!

Best would be if we had some kind of recreation of Emperor: Battle for Dune using Vamps all power :)

True, but this port has 256 colours, MIDI music, high resolution scalers and window mode support....try doing that on OCS ;)

Nice, how about Dune Dynasty port, based on same engine?
EXTERNAL LINK  It adds a layer of:

Custom campaigns
Fog of war option
Smoother unit animation
Brutal AI mode
Skirmish mode
Jukebox
Bug fixes

This game should have better to run on a stock AGA computer without Vampire.

Great work NovaCoder!

Glad to see another port with external midi support :-)

No worries mate and the MIDI music sounds wonderful with this port.

I did my best to fix up the digital sound issues, the next Aminet version (0.9.003) has correct frequency for the intro speech but maybe too fast for the game?  Must be a bug in the openDune engine itself.

Nova Coder -

Would you be interested in a stand-alone V4 when they become available? I would quite happily help with sponsoring one for you... thanks for all the cool ports. :)

That's very kind of you but I'm going to take a break from Amiga coding for now and watch what happens in the scene.

Brilliantly work ! I’ll have to try this over Easter 🐣

How about a break after porting Command and Conquer. Even though a port exists I’ve yet to see anyone getting it running on OS3x

There is OpenRed Alert 68k
EXTERNAL LINK
Since its had  a lot of limits, it would be great if someone could improve it (this port was done by Artur Jarosik, Bernd Roesch).

Current OpenRA supports Tiberian Sun, Dune 2000 and Red Alert.

@Nova Coder
Have a nice break, and please bring more gifts afterwards! :)

Just tried 0.9.003, great port loving it :-)

Just one thing, I had to use my SC-55 as MT32 mode does not work. Sysex is not transferred to the MT32 at the start like it should, so everything sounds wrong.

Glad to see you come out of retirement NovaCoder, even if just briefly! ;-)

who are those ("we") you speak for?

Having Dune 2 with full intro, more colors and better screen resolution is great!

Well, there is OpenRA but needs some work :)

Dont get me wrong, I love NovaCoders work! Most of it will come to effect with GOLD3 core for Vampire users (his Quake AGA port, Quake2, Duke).

Dune2 is genre definer, but also so much played and genre was improved further.

I agree lack of coders is Amigas dead end, and we should cherish and nurture each one left.

Did you enable MT32 in the config file?

You shouldn't actually be using MT32 with an SC55 anyway as it supports general MIDI.

I enabled MT32 mode in the ini and connected my MT32. I am used to playing this game on my DOS PC and recognised that it did not sound right.

It should transfer Sysex when you see the message 'Initializing the MT-32' but there is no transfer.

I therefore turned off MT32 mode and connected my SC-55 instead.

Just thought I'd let you know that MT32 mode isn't working ;-)

I have to get one of those Roland things...
Which model is most common to use with the Amiga?
MT32? SC55?
Also the Poseidon USB stack support midi trough "camdusbmidi.class",so anyone knows which USB midi devices are compatible?

Hi Pedro,

I use the Datel Midi Master with my setup and it works great. There are lots of others out there and they connect to the Amiga serial port.

I use NovaCoder's ScummVM port and external midi is essential IMO. Older games need the MT-32 and later ones (>1992 usually) an SC-55, so I would buy both ;-)

I have - MT-32, MT-100, CM-64, SC-55st and a few internal Yamaha XG cards for my PC's.

Thank you Collin.
So if i go with an SC-55 it would also work with older games? (Sierra ones)

About USB ones, any suggestion? The idea is connecting one to the V4  when the time comes...

About older games, they are generally either Adlib, Sound Blaster or MT32 as they were made before the General Midi standard. Some games made during the transitional period (92/93ish) support both LA modules (MT-32) and GS midi/General midi (SC-55).

MT-32 supports General Midi (GM) via a Sysex transfer but its inferior to a proper GM/GS unit. Also SC-55 has a MT-32 mode but it is unable to receive Sysex and therefore most games sound wrong. I would strongly suggest that you use the unit the music was composed for. I have both connected to my Amiga at present and switch between them dependent on the game.

Regarding USB, I could never get it to work properly. So I use the gameport on my PC for midi, and the serial port of my Amiga (using the Midi Master). Maybe someone else can help you out with that?

Note regarding Sysex - its a method of transferring Synth patches to the MT-32 to get different sounds. Without it you only have the standard/default MT-32 sounds. Games use Sysex at the beginning and on-the-fly to change the sounds on the unit.
