How to Run Alien Breed 3D2 TKG With the RTG Patch?page  1 2

Vampire 600 v2, Gold 2.11, Coffin r54.

I was trying to do it numerous times. I replaced the original TKG file with the RTG patch from Aminet.

Firstly, I used the HD installation of the game directly from ADFs. When I try to run it, some texture file is missing (the name is "wall" something), and it won't run.

Then I tried to do the same with the WHDLoad version. When it asks for assigns, I point to the data folder. After choosing the sound, the screen resolution an the assigns, I get just a frozen WB screen with some glitches.

Can somebody guide me on how to do it?

    Thanks!

Patch works but don't expect any miracles, AGA version is much better. Don't waste your time

From the patch readme, check is all in place (could be something likeRename TKG to TKG-old and rename tkgrtg to TKG) :

To run it just run it instead of your normal TKG file, all assigns and
TKG datafiles must be in place, like Doom this is just the executable.
Rename TKG to TKG-old and rename tkgrtg to TKG, do not run any of the
speedup patches people have created, I've heard they don't work with
this.

You need RTG Master, AHI and 18mb ram minimum

Thank you, but the problem is, I seem to have  done all that.

Glad about it. Last idea is simply reinstalling P96 and SAGA driver pack, but only as last option. Game depends on correct P96 too. May be just some P96 settings, not a real need to reinstall, latest coffin should have latest SAGA drivers included.

Open the game (icon) in a text editor (should be a simple script running with iconX).
Looks like this:
------------
Assign tkg1: ""
Assign tkg2: ""
Assign sfx: ""
intro.exe
tkg
------------
Make sure to delete the line "intro.exe" and save the file.
tkg is the name of the patched game executable.

Ideally you choose a P96 screenmode with 320x256 8bit resolution.
Screen settings are saved in two hidden files in the game directory.
You may delete those files if you want to select screenmodes on game start again.

Thank you both a lot, I will get down to it when I have a bit of time and report back!

Also some limits of RTG patched version (found in description of YT videos of it running on a Vamp)

  * Run it with at least a stack of 20000, otherwise, you will not get very far.
  * The game has many glitches. This has nothing to do with your Vampire V2, but the RTG patch. The menu is not displayed properly, this is normal and does not work anywhere else too
*MapROM of KS 3.1 is also advised

------
So original comment AGA version is better might be true, and situation might improve with GOLD3 core

Recreating Alien Breed series on DOOM2/Quake 1 engine would be far better now we can run it easily on Vamps. Odamex Doom might be a bit of that taste alongside zDoom port by NovaCoder.

So, I managed to run the game!

I'm using the WHDLoad version, as the one I installed from floppies is crashing.

Now,the only problem is - how do I set up the correct screen mode?

While choosing screenmodes, there is no 320x256 option - I don't have this screenmode in the Picasso settings. I'm choosing the closest one, and the game is not full screen with the bottom info part cut - exactly like in this video:

So, do I have to create a new custom screenmode? If so, How do I do it? I tried, but I don't want to mess about with Picasso settings not to break the stock screenmodes.

OK, I found this video:

EXTERNAL LINK
and created a 320x256 resolution.

Now the bottom of the screen is ok, but the gameplay window is still small.

How do I make it full screen?

Try pressing ENTER once (numeric key pad) ingame to enter Full screen. Hope  it works with RTG Patch :)

Also

(    )          (numeric key pad)      Change screen mode 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2.
-  +            (numeric key pad)      Adjust Screen Height.

Great, thanks, but this is an A600:)
Any solution here?

Kpatch does not work in-game for some reason, or the RTG patch does not have full screen. But in this video:

EXTERNAL LINK
it is full screen...

I can confirm that full screen works in the RTG version and that the numpad shortcuts are used to change the sceen size aswell.
But I also use an external usb keyboard on my vampirized A600 thanks to the Sum600 interface...

So, is there any way of mapping a nonexistent numeric key pad to the existing keys in shell for example? Or maybe there is some software to play around with key mapping?

Well, it was only Vampire that has recently made it an attractive Amiga :)

Just there might be a brief period in the past, of between A600HD| and A1200HD sales, when it was A500plus+HDD that needed fast RAM expansion to work good enough :) but yet was step forward to Amiga and hard drive, PCMCIA and VGA productivity as standard (in the low end All in one Amigas segment!).

KPatch was exactly that, but seems in games real hardware solution also mentioned works far superior.

      Sum600 at Alinea
      https://www.amiga-shop.net/Amiga-Hardware/Amiga-classic-hardware/SUM-600-USB-Keyboard-adapter-for-A600::766.html?language=en

      Sum600 on AmiKit
      EXTERNAL LINK
Then you can use PC and Amiga USB keyboards. There are other solutions to wire a new connector and get Amiga 2000/4000 style keyboard, like in AmiBay discussion
      EXTERNAL LINK
But in the end, there is no (yet) an easy solution to add hw numpad TO EXISTING A600 CASE or have reliable software emulation in games.

Also, even USB based solutions might not save the day, as a quote from a discussion:

"More often than not a USB interface and then a USB numeric pad will only work were a USB stack can be use - this rules out any game running under WHDLoad or any software that reads directly from the Keyboard input (those that hit the ROM) - so pretty much everything outside of Workbench wont work with a USB based solution."

    Amiga curse, as usual!
